Fic Update: "Trinity"
May. 23rd, 2010 10:45 am As I've decided to start uploading the chapters of "Dark Sun of Desire" on ffnet once they've passed muster here among my f-list, I figured I might as well start uploading the chapters of its companion piece, "Trinity." The latter is the Camus/Zeke/Sirius story, and if you think that means a threesome of dudes you're probably not its target audience. I wanted it to be a one-shot, but apparently people get scared off by 10,000 word one-shots, so now it's chaptered. ;P
Basically, it's a nonlinear, quasi-stream-of-consciousness exploration of the most psychologically convoluted character in the Archanea/Valencia games. It begins in Valencia, where the newly christened "Zeke" is trying to make a go of his life as Teeta's lover, Emperor Rudolf's cherished general, and Alm's recruitment target. From there we'll follow Zeke into battle until his memories return, and then we'll switch gears drastically and return to Archanea, where "Sirius" picks up the crumb-trail of his former life before abandoning the place for good. The framing device for chapter one is Alm's attempt to recruit Zeke, which I find interesting because of its parallel scene in FE1/11, wherein Marth's attempt to convert Camus doesn't work so well. Zeke is about as difficult a nut to crack in his new life as he was as the Sable General, but the plot device ex machina goes differently this time....
Zeke in this chapter has only vague impressions and flashes of memory. He's not a blank slate-- he's a capable adult serving as a trusted army general. He simply doesn't know himself. Interacting with Alm is bringing up a weird sense of deja vu that he can't place, but the first memory he has of Archanea is of Sister Lena (per canon, they knew one another during her years in Grust). I didn't want his first memories to be of Nyna. All that mess comes later.
This one and "Dark Sun of Desire" take place in the same "universe," separate from the fic-timeline I usually work in. So this is not a Tales of the Unified Kingdom.

Date: 2010-05-23 10:34 pm (UTC)This is so inconvenient. What if you don't want it to be chaptered? Pfffft, fandom.
I've been waiting for this, though. <3
