Wanted: Cecil/Rody Pix
Jan. 23rd, 2010 12:53 am Dear fans with better knowledge of Japanese than I have:
Where in hell can I find fanart of Cecil and/or Rody from Monshou no Nazo? Cute, dramatic, romantic... ANYTHING.
Kthxbai.

going through japanese fansites is addicting but really time consuming XD
Date: 2010-01-23 07:24 am (UTC)http://yuiki.s12.xrea.com/ (Camus/Nina only, though there's stuff for the other games as well)
http://www16.plala.or.jp/cross-empire/index.html (crossEMPIRE; he/she did a revamp at some point so a lot of old art/sketches are missing... I remember most of it was Minerva and/or Misheil and a single rare Samson/Sheema -- oh wait, I take that back they're archived now: http://www16.plala.or.jp/cross-empire/fe_frame.html -- no Cecil or Rody)
http://aga.qusqus.com/agahari/ag/FEs.htm (you've already seen this site)
http://www112.sakura.ne.jp/~co10cosi/framepage.htm (site seems dead unfortunately, it was mostly porn, but tastefully drawn and often in character... no Cecil/Rody there either)
Hanakago (site is dead, but I'm sure SOMEONE OUT THERE has a collection, though as I recall it was mostly FE9/10)
I save most of the Monshou art I come across as it's so RARE, but not if I don't really like the art style, especially if it's just another boring Marth or Chiki pic. :/ So I likely skipped over something. Cecil's generally overshadowed by the book 1 ladies in terms of popularity though. Especially with Shadow Dragon's release -- there WAS a resurgence of interest among Japanese fanbase, but most of the newer fanart focuses on SD characters. Don't think I've come across Rody yet. (Also he looks too much like Leaf, ignoring the clothes, so I get the sense there's even less interest in him than in Cecil.)
So can't help much, but if you sift through fanart sites (generally you will have to start from one point and then sift through links/webrings because the online Japanese fanwork community is a bit self-inclusive and turnover rate is fairly high as people lose interest or move to different fandoms; a lot of sites die or close pretty fast) or pixiv (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixiv) (I still don't have an account there, but I know people who do):
-> ファイアーエムブレム is Fire Emblem
-> セシル is Cecil (You'll likely get a lot of FFIV hits in the mix if you just search this though). Rody is ロディ. Sometimes pairings get name smushed so you'll see ロデセシ or セシロデ or something, but I have yet to see this pairing really. (Though I swear I remember seeing art with Cecil/Rody/Luke)
-> 暗黒竜 is Ankoku Ryu, 紋章 is Monshou (generally the bigger FE sites will divide galleries into sections by game)
A quick google attempt found me this:
http://www.geocities.jp/nijinokagayaki/femontop1.html (the one big group pic, plus three pages of character close-ups)
I also suggest looking through the resources links of iconmakers: http://community.livejournal.com/rainbow_flavour/395.html (I remember taking a few hours to go through these links and then following links from those sites in turn. can't remember if I looked through all of them, but most of them were FE9/10 focused. Have to be patient for fanart of the earlier games (1-3) though. FE4 has tons and tons; it's the first game that's really popular in terms of fanart as FE4 fans are pretty diehard fans. FE5 has less. 6-10 are easy to find stuff for, and to date I've only found one site with FE2 stuff; though I'm told/have seen that there's more on pixiv. That said, I haven't had the time to go looking in about a year so dunno... there could be more FE3 art by now.)
Anyway, it's probably out there but it'll take a lot of digging. :( (Your best bet might be pixiv.)

Yeah, a lot of yummy FE8 art plus some FE4 eye-candy. Yay. Ephraim and L'Arachel so deserve one another.
crossEMPIRE; he/she did a revamp at some point so a lot of old art/sketches are missing... I remember most of it was Minerva and/or Misheil and a single rare Samson/Sheema
Yeah...I stumbled across that one. Everyone looked a bit too romance-novel-cover for my tasted (though the Samson/Sheema one was good). Plus it has one of the "quintessential" Marth/Roy (ugh!) pics as seen in a zillion YouTube "tributes" to said misbegotten pairing. Also... was that an Eltoshan/Lachesis incest-fest in one section?
http://www112.sakura.ne.jp/~co10cosi/framepage.htm
Tried to access it through the Wayback machine and no luck, damn it all. In-character prOn is such a rarity....

Yeah, for most sites I've seen, the FE3 section generally consists of one (1) Chiki pic, one (1) random Peg Knight Sis, and then one (1) random bishounen. Not into dragon loli, thanks.
Also he looks too much like Leaf, ignoring the clothes, so I get the sense there's even less interest in him than in Cecil.
HAHAH. Yes, he does. It's funny, too, because most of the FE4/5 gang is distinctively different from FE3 charas to the point where they could never be confused, so the handful of ringers do stand out... hilariously so. Poor Rody. Sure, he and Cecil have no dialogue and next to no personality... but I've seen more art of Saji and Maji than of Cecil and Rody, which is just plain sad.

Also, is it just me, or do most of the extant sites have terrible design, like circa-2000 design with glitchy frames? Maybe it's just a cross-browser issue...
Though I swear I remember seeing art with Cecil/Rody/Luke
As a threesome? Not that I'd be surprised. Thanks for the tips... I already encountered the frustration of FF results for my FE search, so this should help refine things somewhat.
Anyway, it's probably out there but it'll take a lot of digging. :( (Your best bet might be pixiv.
Well, you've given me some excellent leads. Thanks so much for taking the time!

You might be able to salvage some pieces by searching "c10cosi" -- her (I assume her due to some of the comments on her site) art has been pretty popular/well known among English fanbase as well for years. I'm really disappointed about this site closing (if it did; I'm hoping it's just temporarily down) -- I'd just checked it a few months ago too. :( It was really good art, and the site had links to a lot of other excellent fanart sites (both NSFW and not).
Also, is it just me, or do most of the extant sites have terrible design, like circa-2000 design with glitchy frames? Maybe it's just a cross-browser issue...
Yar. They love their frames. (It's either frames or artblogs, I don't think I've seen any other format ever. XD Except for the one-page sites that make you scroll foreverrrrrr. Frame galleries are most common though.) They haven't been glitchy for me though, what browser do you use? A lot of Asian sites are IE-compatible only, but Firefox works fine for me most of the time.
As a threesome?
Not quite romantic threesome, yah.
Thanks so much for taking the time!
Glad to help. Share the loot if you find any good stuff! XD
(PS. A few things I forgot to mention:
- "絵" is the label for galleries. Some sites write "illus"/"gallery" in English but other sites use 絵 or 絵画館.
- http://honyaku.nifty.com/ is usually better than Babelfish or Google Translator if you get stuck -- some sites make you type in passwords or click hidden links to get inside, just to make it harder for non-Japanese readers.
- There are also themed web directories that you can search with like http://forseti.info/, which links to fansites of FE1-3, but I've rarely used them simply because they are really time-consuming; some sites list themselves as fans but don't have art -- some only have fanfic and some are strategy sites or personal sites even.)

Date: 2010-01-24 05:02 am (UTC)So, I don't know if it helps at all, but this (http://mitutoko.hp.infoseek.co.jp/) appears to be a search site dedicated to het Fire Emblem pairings and it does have a section for FE1/3/11. Sadly, it doesn't seem to have a spot for Cecil/Rody on the site (I can't read Japanese, so I use a translator to help me, so it'd not impossible that I've missed something), so it doesn't really help much unfortunately. Besides, you've probably seen it already. It appears to be a fairly small search site in comparison to some of the others out there, but I've found it to be a good starting point as I then used the sites there to help me find more sites and so from there.
I've also found some art from those games here (http://www.surpara.com/searchWeb.php?P=0&gid=119&c=0), but that search engine is much more intermixed with the other games, so it's harder to sort through. At least the first search engine separates them into their respective games.
I'm sorry that I couldn't be more help. Please do share if you find anything of interest. I'm always looking for more art from those games.

Date: 2010-01-24 06:10 am (UTC)I've found one pic of Luke (I think) on a site I was already familiar with, and that's about it. Poor unloved little cavaliers....

Date: 2010-02-04 06:58 am (UTC)It's not technically what you were looking for, but I figured I'd point it out since it does have Cecil in it and I've seen so little art of her.
The main site is here (http://www.geocities.jp/eggtarq/index.html). The site actually has some very pretty art, although the picture I just showed you isn't one that I much like.

Date: 2010-02-04 10:05 pm (UTC)I think Cecil/Cain has potential (since Rody seems to like her more than she likes him), but that pic was kind of creepy. I dunno, most comic depictions of Cain rub me the wrong way, in part because Shadow Dragon makes it hard to see him as a comic figure. Sure, the guy can crack a joke under tense conditions, but the whole lone-survivor-of-a-massacre business colors his characterization for me.
I will be sure to check that site out, though. Thanks again.

Date: 2010-02-05 02:29 am (UTC)I found it on a side part of the site where the artist has a bunch a sketches of what appears to be his/her favorite pairings from a variety of games (In terms of Fire Emblem 1/3/11, on top of Cecil/Cain, the artist are also has sketches of two other pairings for Cain and Merric/Linde). Some of the sketches are cute, but I do prefer the stuff in the artist's main gallery more.
I don't have really have much of an opinion of Cecil/Cain. I feel like there are better choices for him, but I'm not opposed to it.

Date: 2010-02-05 03:48 am (UTC)Cain/Elice (http://www.geocities.jp/eggtarq/gallery/5th/26.png) is the last one.
I didn't notice the Abel/Est one. I must have missed it.

Date: 2010-02-05 09:58 pm (UTC)I thought #38 might be Abel and Est... even though the pink-haired girl has a bicycle helmet on for no apparent reason.

Date: 2010-02-05 10:38 pm (UTC)That picture is actually from Chrono Trigger. I don't know if you've ever played it, but it's Lucca (who wears a helmet normally) and Glenn.
Some of the pictures in that section are kind of hard to decipher. I used an online translator to work through it.

It's funny actually. I've known about this site for a while, but I completely missed these. O_o I don't know if you've seen this site, but I figured that I'd show them to you since you had been looking.

Date: 2010-03-22 01:23 am (UTC)Thanks! They have everything on this site. Even a modern-day FE5 crew at the beach with Leaf slicing a watermelon. @_@
Though the artist does make the characters from the various games all look more similar than they really do... still, not going to complain.

More Cecil art, which you've probably seen. No more luck on Rody. :(
Source: http://www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~hissa-s/cgroom2.htm
It has a fair amount of art, mostly aimed at the women of the Fire Emblem games, although some of the guys slipped in there as well (It seems to cover most of the games as well. There is even some Gaiden stuff there). Most of the stuff is work safe as far as I can tell, but, depending how sensitive you are, a few might not be, so I figured that I'd warn you.

Date: 2010-05-01 11:18 am (UTC)Clearly a Rinda... I mean Linde... fan-- love the one of her and Miroa. Also, there is Tear Ring Saga stuff on here. That's hardcore.
I guess I will just have to take bad art of Leaf when I find it and pretend it's Rody. Sniffle.
Thanks!

Date: 2010-05-15 03:47 pm (UTC)I'm kind of hit and miss with that site. I like how the artist draws a few characters (Cain, Catria, and sort of Est), but I'm more bothered by others like her depictions of Abel, which just looks awfully comical for my tastes.
