Yo, FE6 People

I've seen some speculation that Rutger could potentially be the son of Kent and Lyn-- or, rather, that they're a retcon possibility to be his parents.  But after finding out that Priscilla runs off with Guy in the FE7 novelization, I have to wonder... could the red-haired mercenary be considered as the son of the original Sword Saint and his red-haired bride?

Is there anything that rules this out?

Really? I did it as part of an RP with Manna once, which kinda made both of us think "hey, it could be possible" and she used it in one of her fics. But I don't think it became that widespread of fanon.

I don't think it is widespread fanon. I've seen it maybe twice in discussions?

And I don't believe I've ever seen Guy + Priscilla = Rutger. It never occurred to me before, as I don't ship that pairing AT ALL, but in light of the novel....

The idea was actually sain's from way before the FE Dressing Room RP event. :P Mostly because his official artwork does have him looking an awful lot like a cross between a Sacaen and a redhead.

I believe Rutger is canonically in his 20's - but I don't think it would be outlandish to say that was a fabrication on his part, or that Sacaeans have different ideas of years, or. . .something.
Personally? I can see it much easier than Kent/Lyn. He sort of resembles Raven.

If they eloped right after the war, and Priscilla had the baby within a year, he'd be about twenty (compared with 15ish for Roy, Lilina, and friends). If Sacaens used a lunar calendar... well, it's plausible.

Yeah, he DOES kind of resemble Raven. I suspect Kent and Lyn had no children, given their ending doesn't mention any (and her other paired endings leave no room for doubt).

Also, that Harken + Isadora = Oujay hypothesis? Intriguing!

Yeah, I just looked it up - I don't think a definite age is given, but he's officially in his 20's. (I keep thinking he's 24 but I think that's a fanon thing.)

The one thing that gets me, is Rutger is half Sacaean and half Bernese. Cornwall is very definitely in Caelin - though I guess it could be said that Marquess Cornwall married a Bernese woman and gave Rutger the stated Bernese looks he has? Hm.

Then again, Eliwood/Lyn clashes with Roy's Ilian Mom, yet can happen anyway. Hmm.

Yeah, a lot of FE7 kind of gives the finger to FE6.
Durandal reacts to dragons (not necessarily in dragon form only, I presume) and tries to auto-pwn them.
Roy can be 1/4 dragon.
Roy can wield Durandal easily (well, as easily as Roy can wield anything.)
End result is bwuuuh? Though Jayden's idea of it causing him some pain works it out rather neatly - it's not at all canon, really. \

So I'd say it's plausible to give a big ol' MEH to it if it would make for a good story, really.

Maybe Priscilla pretended to be Bernese so she couldn't be returned to her adoptive family? She was already a Lycian "passing" as Eturian, after all.

That. . . would actually work quite neatly for it.
Rutger's heritage only comes in when Bern's soldier's mistake him for one of their own - and it isn't really like the Bernese look all that different from Lycians. It isn't like Etruria where they're all blond and pretty or somesuch.

I like the idea of him being Guy and Prissy's son, actually... Kind of an interesting thought.

Also, re: Rutger claiming to be Bernese. That was a spanner in the works for the fun fan theory of him being Kent and Lyn's son-- Kent doesn't even mention Bern once so it's safe to assume he's 100% Lycian. But it's just as safe to say that Rutger made up being Bernese to save his own ass. Bernese folks look NO different than Lycians or Etrurians. But if he claimed to be at least half Bernese, he might get a break from being killed or treated like a full-blooded Sacaen. So I always took that claim as part of his, idk, wall.

I didn't know that Prissy and Guy ran off together in the novelization though. I suddenly like the pairing more... :P

I don't really like it, so I was... surprised... to hear it was "canon" in any form of media... but that made me wonder if they were intended to have an FE6 character as a child like Eli/Ninian, Hector/Florina, and Lyn/Rath (other pairings from the novelization). And then I thought, "Rutger!"

And this is why I don't buy that Rutger is Kent and Lyn's son. Interesting theory, yes, but beyond the superficial resemblance, I don't see much else that suggests that any relation to them, you know?

Plus, if he was their son, it rather screws with what I have planned for RoJD. XD

...this is a really interesting theory, one I never actually thought of (because I'm not much for Guy/Priscilla), but it makes sense. Rutger does resemble Raven, and as others have said, him saying he is part Bernese could just be a cover to save his own ass.
