 Heeey.

Tavreynya's back with a new Rennac/L'Arachel story.  Go read now, plz.

I really need to stop looking over my outline for an FE3 novelization while listening to Jesus Christ Superstar.  Bad Mark- go work on "Starchild" if you have free time, which you don't, so you'd better change into civvies and go to your meeting.

At least I finally got the new vacuum cleaner.

Anything done while listening to Jesus Christ Superstar is a worthy pursuit. I'm just saying.

Yeah, I conned my husband into buying me a copy last week. I mean, I grew up with it, but I'd never actually owned my own copy until now.

Which version is it?
All I've got are my mom's records from the original run of the movie, but I've heard a couple others. Have been meaning to see if the cast I saw live did an album or not.

Movie version, with Neeley and Anderson.

I listened to some of the original West End cast's recording with Murray Head and the dude from Deep Purple, and it's just too... stagey. Ian Whats-his-name might technically be a better singer than Neeley, but it doesn't sound like he's anything other than a performer doing a role. Whereas Neeley sounds to me like he actually believes what he's singing. Murray Head is a pretty interesting Judas, though.

The movie recording is probably my favorite version, because I really did enjoy Judas' performance more than any other version I've heard. I'm also of the (apparently unpopular) opinion that the movie's Mary Magdalene was fantastic.

I'm really bummed that we couldn't manage Ted Neeley's last performance here in Boston, though. When I saw the show a couple years ago, it was supposed to be Sebastian Bach from Skid Row as Jesus, but I guess he had a throat infection, so we had a stand-in that I can't remember the name of. He was amazing, though, and I wish I could remember who he was so I could see if he'd done anything else. Alas.

I'm of mixed feelings about movie!Mary, and the fact that apparently she didn't know the difference between the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene when she played the role adds to the weirdness factor. Movie!Judas is awesome beyond awesome, though.

I dunno, the whole thing is seared so deeply into my psyche that even though many lyrics are dated and the sound effects and such are lame... I still love it.

Yeah, I grew up with it, myself. I can't quite separate the nostalgia-goggles from a true consideration of all of it, really, but that's okay with me.

Thissss.

My dad was a huge musical geek and one of the things I grew up listening to was Jesus Christ Superstar (the other favourite was Les Miserables) and I love it so much.
