Neon Emblem Evangelion
May. 7th, 2011 07:24 pm LMAO off at the fact that other people are interested in a crossover.
See, that's what "Starchild" started as-- a Fire Emblem/EVA fusion. Only I got really, really sick of dealing with EVAbabble like LCL, progressive knives, sync ratios, and whatever the hell Angels would translate to in an FE mash-up. So I said, "OK, Mark, throw all that shit out the window and go with what you actually know about," which is spaceflight circa 1961-1972.And I proceeded to have sheer awesome fun with it.
Anyway, here are some notes for the aborted Neon Emblem Evangelion thingamajig. They're not necessarily spoilers for "Starchild," though if you've read that you may see how one story draft went into the other.
Ikari Gendo = Rudolf. Not because Rudolf is creepy, evil, and wants to destroy humanity, but because he's the master orchestrator of a plan to... well, canon!Rudolf wants to defeat God. Sort of. Dead wives don't come into it. The dead-mother angle overall wasn't played up so much-- it was more the man/fate/god end of things.
Therefore...
Ikari Shinji = Rudolf's son Alm, the unwitting tool of Rudolf's Master Plan
This led to...
Asuka = Cellica. No, Cellica isn't psychotic. Actually, she knows a hell of a lot more about what's going on than Alm does, which makes her a borderline co-conspirator. So the Second Child here carried some of the Ritsuko role.
And then we have the problem of...
Rei. Well, besides being not-human... and kinda-sorta Shinji's dead mother except not... what is Rei? Well, there are multiple Reis. And they're all "Rei," but they don't have the same experiences... or memories... or personality. Well, I threw the dead-mom aspect away entirely here and went with Ayanami Rei = Marth. I was focusing entirely here on the First Child's role as a tool in the larger scheme of things. And the psychological issues... like not appearing to understand what certain emotions are. :/
Toji was Sigurd, not because Sigurd's anything like Toji but because he basically showed up to die (I've read some of the EVA manga). I didn't have a Kaworu figure because Alm's NOT like Shinji, so the trajectory of the plot went in a completely different direction and the whole Kaworu angle didn't even fit. But the three Magi computers were renamed after the "Wise Men" of FE-- Gotoh, Athos, and Niime. ;)
Basically, it was fucked-up to the point where it was headache-inducing, and it was a great relief to take the damn thing and rework it as "Starchild"-- not least because I no longer had to think about EVA-based physics and biology.

Date: 2011-05-07 11:49 pm (UTC)But yeah, the weirdness of Eva's biology and history, and the general "wtf" of the different continuities, that would be the major stumbling block if I were to actually attempt a mashup of sorts. Far more messy than trying to find coordinating roles for the major cast The idea of Marth as Rei, though? That's kind of horrifying - and yet scarily appropriate. Kid never gets a break, does he?
Thinking for now that the idea of FE characters shoved into Ohtori is the leader of my odd 90s-anime-meets-FE ideas, if only because Jayden already hit Sailor Moon to brilliant effect.

Well, it was like...
"FE2 has a tiny and mostly comic cast, so I'll need to borrow characters from Archanea."
"OK, what do I do with Marth, then?"
"Which one?"
"What do you mean, 'which one'?" "
Well, there are... different ones."
(pause).
"Yeah. There are... different ones."
And that was that from Central Casting.
Fuyutsuki was Jagen, BTW. I did find that one amusing.
Kid never gets a break, does he?
Never. It's like the undercurrent of the whole franchise.
FE characters shoved into Ohtori
I wanna see that, big time.

Date: 2011-05-08 04:51 am (UTC)I think FE-Ohtori might be the leading candidate for my next project. Really a matter of deciding how true I want to remain to elements of Utena. My first thought was Ninian as an Anthy figure and Eliwood as the "Utena" (with various lords as the student council, and a brief, giddy, but ultimately 100% nonsensical idea of Myrrh as Mamiya and Ephraim as Mikage) but that throws all the genderbend right out the window.

Date: 2011-05-08 11:58 am (UTC)That ALONE made me want to forge ahead with the original draft. :(
I think Manfroy was Lorenz Keel? Yeah.

It really hinges on what element of Utena you want to zero in on. Which... leads to brain-breakage for me!
See, if Eirika is Utena (she's my #1 choice), then Ephraim would need to be her "shadow figure"-- but is the appropriate "shadow" Mikage (the role he literally plays in Utena) or Akio? Let the mind-melting commence!

Date: 2011-05-11 12:03 am (UTC)Did like Shinji!Alm fighting Doma, though-- an FE villain who could easily pass for an EVA Angel, what with his burning red eye.
