OK.  Next couple of weeks will be busy as all-get-out and then I'm going out of town for the holidays, so I went ahead and made my [livejournal.com profile] fe_contest contribution tonight.  Um, I'm really not sure what to say about a story that references Poochie: The Movie, other than to say that FE12 takes my brain to deeply-screwed up places.  Also, I think Mary Sue and Gary Stu ended up being more likable than the canon characters in this one, which is sad but indicative of my subconscious feelings re: FE12.  But I did feel like I needed some mindbleach after writing it.

I was originally going with a Magvel theme-- the Eirika/Saleh!kid one-- but the tone of that totally didn't work.  The idea of it was too Sue-ish for a serious 'fic, and the execution of it was too serious to be any fun.  The idea will probably haunt me, but once I got the brainwave for the FE12 one (which actually is a parodic twist on a serious 'fic I was toying with last year), the FE8 one was left in the dust.

I find it hilarious that the genfic meme has by FAR the most activity of the new writing memes at [livejournal.com profile] emblanon .  It's good, though-- I kinda like that Karel 'n' Renault one that's going on.

-x-

Attention Archanea/Valencia fans-- those prompts aren't gonna fill themselves, anons.  I see lots of requests and 1 and 2/3 'fics in that meme.

Maybe I'm having a mental block, but how exactly does this "FE Fest" comm work?  I read the instructions a couple of times and I still don't understand the process.  But then again, part of the reason I decided to play in [livejournal.com profile] fe_contest  was because it had the easiest rules of any writing comm I'd seen in years-- here is prompt, here is word limit, here is deadline.  On [livejournal.com profile] fe_fest  I kind of got bogged down in all the pairing guidelines.  Where do prompts go?  Who fills them?  And stuff.

I found your fe_contest entry really amusing, which surprised me because, for the most part, I lack a sense of humor where FE12 is concerned, but I liked the way that you presented your parody fic. I'll try to write up a better review tomorrow and while I'm there perhaps I'll try to finally review the last round of fics because I really need to do that already. -_-

I really want to fill a few of the Archanea/Valencia prompts, but most of them seem to call for sex in the prompt and I am so bad at writing sex. I'm eying one prompt, but I don't know if I can pull it off. I've been writing more, although not exclusively, in the Gen section.

I don't know much about FE Fest sadly, but I'm curious as well.

I'm glad you liked the contest 'fic... I was afraid the premise might offend you. I am interested in hearing your in-depth reaction to it, given that you know the game and universe better than most of the other contestants.

I felt it was a really mean-spirited take on the universe, but that's because I take Archanea too so seriously and going into parody-land with "Wings of Love" was... different. I dunno. I feel affection for the characters when I'm writing "Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal," but I didn't really feel it here. I was surprised that the reaction so far has been positive. Maybe it's not as bad as I thought.

but most of them seem to call for sex in the prompt

Ah, the downfall of the kink meme. Hence the reason the gen meme is going great guns, IMO.

I suppose that, had it been done with clearly serious intentions, I might not have found it so amusing, but you managed to poke at a bunch of things that have been bothering me about FE12 and you made me laugh at them. I'm still not okay with any of those points, but the lighter take on it managed to make me stop pouting about it for a few moments and view it in a bit of a less serious manner.

But more on that tomorrow when I'm not so tired.

Ah, the downfall of the kink meme. Hence the reason the gen meme is going great guns, IMO.

As I think that I've said, the addition of the gen portion of the meme is great for me because I want to participate, but I'm limited in what I can write competently. The gen meme appears to be becoming less a kink meme and more of a general request meme, which is a lot of fun. It has a little bit of everything. ^_^

On FE Fest - you comment to that post (the same one with the instructions), and put your prompt(s) in the comment. That's all you do right now; the next phase is when you decide what you want to write.

She'll compile a long list of all the prompts in another post, and that's where you comment quoting the ones you want to take.

This process ends up with a lot of unused prompts over at Spring Kink, but there are usually hundreds to choose from, so that's inevitable. Anybody might write for your prompts, and you can choose any prompt you want -- or as many as you want. I did nine one year at SK, and that was nothing on the fifteen or twenty someone else I knew decided to try.

OK. I guess I got confused in part because it seemed like a couple of people on my f-list mentioned that they'd already contributed prompts, but there aren't any there in the comments section. So I kind of went WTF?

Yeah, that confused me, too, but then I realized the comments were screened. I actually was asking about it on the anon meme because I was so confused. I'd feel dumb for not being a part of it...duh, being an FE writer and all, buuuuut I couldn't figure out how things worked. (Got it now, though!)

I also fail at prompts, I need to think of some to make.

Yeah, this. Everything is screened, and it's probably a little clearer now that she's made a few mod answers to comments we can't see, but I understand the confusion. I don't think it says anywhere in the post that the prompts are screened.

I vote for batshit AU prompts. I made a few myself. :D In fact, I should've remembered to ask for the Florina = Amelia Earhart thing. Ah well.

Oh hell yeah. I would even be tempted to write that craziness. You should tack it on or something.
