FE 100 #25 (Land of Winter Chill)

Just a little Cain 'n' Catria thing I've been fooling around with since last winter. Originally there was a plot attached. Uh, this takes place during Shin Monshou no Nazo during the whole Temple of the Ice Dragons dealie. The red knight and the middle peg sister are out on patrol.
I do not own Fire Emblem or any of its characters.
The land was so cold, so bleak, that color itself died. If she let her steps lag for a moment, the cinnabar-red of Cain’s cloak would fade to gray; if she lagged for two moments, Cain would disappear entirely. The snow that swirled around them didn’t come from the sky; the merciless winds scraped it from the mountain crags and hurled it down upon them. She’d heard as a child that the touch of snow was like a faint kiss, like the touch of butterfly wings. It was wrong, all wrong; snow was like a storm of tiny darts, like the desert sand before dawn when everything was cold, cold, cold. And dry... only when the snow worked its way into the folds of her clothing did it melt and add to her misery. Her hands were wet inside their gloves, her feet were wet in their boots. The exposed skin of her face felt like it had turned to stone, to porcelain; she imagined her cheeks would craze and shatter at a touch. All of her muscles contracted like sodden leather gone dry. Even her eyes in their sockets felt slow. Could they, too, freeze solid amid all of this snow?
She stepped into the impressions Cain made in the white crust and forced her legs to move at a pace that would keep her just behind him, so close the clouds of her breath would touch his shoulders. If she lost sight of that red cloak, the only thing of color in this pale desolation, she might never feel the warmth of sun or flame again.
I'm trying to get over my "issues" with FE12. That's all.

Date: 2010-11-20 09:58 pm (UTC)In the original, they tromped around in the snow and then went back to the cavern where everyone was camping out, and then Xane messed with Catria's head and made her feel crummy, and then she brooded awhile and distracted herself by talking with Cain and it was all really ambiguous.
I do have a less ambiguous snippet featuring the two of them prior to this, when they're crossing Anri's Way.
Are you doing the FE100 challenge then?
Maybe. I have a list of ideas for some of the prompts (one hundred 'fics is... a lot). The "Deathblow" prompt mutated into "Brave Ascent," and some of the "...! ! !" prompt got incorporated into "Dark Sun of Desire," so I don't know if I need to take another stab at those, or what.

I hope that you decide to post it one day. I'd like to read it.

A hundred is a lot. I briefly contemplated it myself, but quickly dismissed it because I'm sure that I wouldn't be able to finish the project.
As for the fic issue that you mentioned, I don't know. In my opinion, it would probably be okay to utilize those fics (or the parts of those fics that apply) for the challenge since they were done with the prompts in mind, but what really matters is how you feel on the matter, so I can't really say much on the matter. Sorry.
