Dear Fire Emblem fans who whine about remakes and complain about not getting a new console game--

FE12 has sold more in two weeks than FE9 or FE10 have to date (in Japan, anyway).

It's a business-- deal with it.

Love, Mark of the Asphodel

PS: Makes you wonder what IS is going to do now they can't whore Marth out anymore have remade the most obvious remake candidate.

PPS: Sales data from VGChartz, btw

I find this information quite satisfying. (Eat it, all you Ike / Soren fangirls.) But I am starting to wonder if, given these sales, Nintendo will think to resurrect Jugdral for us.

I'm kind of iffy on the idea of making FE4 on a handheld. Given the expanse of those maps and the overall "epic" nature, it seems to scream for a console remake. But the sales of FE10 appeared to burn IS, given the investment necessary for a console game, so... hmm. I dunno.

I wish Ike and Soren nothing but the best on their travels together. It's the beast-people that turn me off on Tellius. They squick me. I don't care if they subvert some of the cliches, it still squicks me. I do not like elves and I do not like beast-people. The typical FE dragons are about as much as I can handle, and part of what mitigates them for me is that the dragons are basically gods.

Though coming out of SSB fandom as I do, I have to admit a lingering grudge against rabid Ike partisans. Tiara Boy pwns you in SSB and he pwns you at the sales counter too, you jerks.

:-) I have faith in the power of the DS. More than that, though, I have noticed that console games have become so prohibitively expensive to make that portables, already more profitable and more widely played in this time period, are the wave of the future. And people looking for a more console-like experience can always get a PSP. Goodness knows it feels like sitting down and playing JRPGs from the SNES and PS1 eras, seeing as to how many of them have been ported to it or remade for it.

Nothing against Ike / Soren in particular or slash in general (I am quite fond of Lucius / Raven, among other pairings), but those fangirls like to overrun the kink meme. Then again, they overrun it with Laguz prompts, too.

I want this on a t-shirt or a bumper sticker or something.

I'm such a minority: all I want IS to do is revisit old worlds.

Part of me really, really wants an FE2 remake, and part of me hesitates. I like the plot and characterization of FE2 as it is and don't want any "improvements," especially improvements that might diminish the roles of Alm and Cellica.

Also... I kind of like Alm and Cellica's art designs as they are, unreconstructed from the Famicom era. I wince at the idea of Alm being overhauled and prettied up, rendered an androgynous waif to suit the current FE aesthetic. Though maybe they'd go the Hector/FE10 Ike route on him too and make him into a steroid monster. I dunno.

For the record, I'd rather have infinite remakes than a new game. After FE9/10 disappointed the hell outta me (and I haven't even played them), I just think they were Doing It Wrong. Remakes are a much better way to go.

But the beast-people IS what made FE9/10 bad. Not that I have anything against them. I'm sure in their own right...they're good characters.

But just...what. They're not even REAL "furries". They're just fanservice.

Yeah, I agree.

They're just fanservice.

Well, Fire Emblem spent eight consecutive games building on a pretty specific concept of humans and dragons-- with five of the games dealing with what are apparently the SAME set of dragons and their interactions with humanity. And even for someone like me who doesn't normally give a crap about dragons, it was handled in an interesting way. Then come Game #9, all that goes out the window and it's like, hey, cat-girls! It's not even the same sort of dragons in Tellius-- the Japanese term is even different. On a certain level, it's "Not Fire Emblem," as the GameFaqs trolls would say.

And the sexy bird-people just drive me up the wall. Even seeing them in a montage of characters makes me kind of angry... like, "Get out!"

Some part of me just went, "YES, TELLIUS FANS, SUCK IT. MARTH IS BETTER THAN IKE."

The other part of me told it to stfu.

...They could make a third game with Marth in it to whore him out some more.

Heh. If he shows up in a third game, it'll probably just be to die or something, and that would be no fun. :(

Or he'd be really old and it'd be about his and Sheeda's kids and how Michalis some evil dude is trying to take over the world. And if Marth isn't killed by the middle of the game, he'd probably die of disease or 'old age' or something like that.

and I would cry if they did that and shake my fist at IS.

Really old, by Fire Emblem standards, natch.

and I would cry if they did that and shake my fist at IS.

Yeah. Part of me wants to see some kind of followup on this Michalis bullshit involving a tie-in to Valencia and hopefully involving a thorough asskicking for Michalis in the end, and part of me looks at the track record IS has with prequels/sequels (Hector and Eliwood say hi from their premature graves) and says, no thanks.

Leave Marth alone. He's been through enough already. Save the evil speculations for fanfiction where it belongs.

Michalis is still dead in my (unpublished, half written, fully outlined) novelisation and that's the way he's staying. "Yeah, he just wasn't the conquering type..."

It'd be an interesting premise for a fic, and even for a game if it was done correctly. Done wrong and it's a huge pile of Do Not Want for me.
