Pale Green Food

Man, I acquired a bunch of neat stuff today. A bouquet of Crazy Daisies, two dozen farm-fresh eggs and a box from Zingerman's all came to me by various means. I knew about the Zingerman's order, as I placed it, but the others were a surprise. The Z-box contained a jar of pistachio cream and three loaves of chocolate sourdough bread. As in, sourdough bread laced with chocolate chunks. When I was at university, one of the "hippie house" co-ops claimed to make and serve just that, but I never wanted to eat at Columbae and so never tasted it. Fortunately, Zingerman's can supply me with what I need. As for the pistachio cream... it's this heavenly pale-green substance from Italy that should be used as a cake topping but I like it on toast. Or a spoon. :)
The eggs-- one dozen duck eggs, one dozen chicken eggs-- are also an eerie pale green. When my co-worker told me he could get me green eggs, I was thinking a brilliant teal, like an emu's egg. These green eggs are a little less unsettling, I guess... I should serve them with ham, heh. Anyway, I have some foodie friends coming over on Saturday and they should be intrigued by it.

I am taking tomorrow off work. As in, OFF-off, don't call me, phone's on the charger. This is not something I do often, but in this case something just has to give.
*
I was gonna post some notes for "The Most Exclusive Dive In Town" because it's screwy enough that I feel the need to explain myself, but I'm not in the mood right now.

Hey, there is new good stuff in the FE section of eff-eff-net! And no, I'm not plugging my own stuff. There's promising new Elibe 'fic, and "new and different" Elibe works aren't easy to come by. All you people who mourn the dearth of reviews-- go read "To Sew the Seeds of Discord" right now and review it. And yes, that's a pun in the title. And read "A Second Betrayal" while you're at it.

Uptick in headcase!Eliwood 'fics of late. This intrigues me. Must... resist... temptation....

Date: 2010-07-30 05:13 am (UTC)I'm sure they were the eerie shade of green because of what the chickens had been eating. Maybe things like cucumber peelings and/or other greens/grains like corn. ;P
(Waaahhhh, I want my chickens back.)
Have a great day off of work, by the way! *CALLS YOUR PHONE* I mean uhhhhh... :P I personally never answer my phone unless I think it's the doctor's office.
Also, new FFN 'fic? WHAT. /zips over
Also, headcase!Eliwood... DO IT. You know you want to. I think out of all the characters, he might have the most potential of ending up at least a little crazy.

Date: 2010-07-30 12:26 pm (UTC)Ah, makes sense in terms of these pastel delicate tints, yes. I had thought that it depended on the breed... I recall reading that Asian/South American chicken breeds produced green-shelled eggs, but maybe those eggs are more of a "emu green" color.

I think that's one reason I've resisted. Eliwood and Hector are pretty easy targets... it's not a case of finding chinks in their mental defenses to exploit, there are these big gaping psychic wounds. It's one thing to look at Marth in FE11 (when I was expecting him to be a little ray of sunshine) and go, "Kid, you are setting off my alarm bells." But to take Eliwood and all of his baggage... Elbert. Ninian (whether she enters the Gate or not). Losing his wife. Falling ill. Losing Hector. Sitting on the sidelines while his only son is out there doing who-knows-what, no doubt with huge stretches of time where there's no way to contact Roy or even hear news of him.... yes, that could all be pretty easily construed as too much for one sensitive and reflective man to take. And Fire Emblem universes are not so kind as to never give the characters more than they can take.
Tell ya what, though... it's made me reconsider Eliwood/Lyn. I completely don't buy it as romance, but if he's marrying his best friend while simultaneously never fully getting over Ninian... I can believe that. Not gonna hold up a flag for the 'ship, but I can get behind it as a plausible outcome.

Date: 2010-08-01 02:41 pm (UTC)The pistachio cream is $20.00 a jar. It's a once-a-year investment for me, but totally worth it.
