Well, nuts.  On the other hand, I did happen to think "A Knight in Reverse" was one of the better things I'd written in a while, but on the other hand I hate to give the impression that [livejournal.com profile] fe_contest  is a "newbies not welcome" kind of place where the same couple of writers win every time.  But we had at least one new contestant this time, plus someone from ffnet PM'd me with an indication that they're up for the next round, so that's all good.  And it was a strong field this time, too... I had a real hard time deciding what #2 and #3 ought to be on the ballot (Gritty realism or sharp-edged comedy?  Argh!).

Maybe I'll just sit out the next round of things and focus on finishing some current WIPs or something.  And no, I have no bloody idea what the next challenge will be yet.

It is incredibly hot and today's rain didn't much help.  Yuk.

Archanea sucks.  Not the continent, the kingdom.  This post at SerenesForest details the whole Hardin-and-the-plainsmen backstory at the bottom of the page, and two things are clear:

1) Hardin was a big damned hero.  Though we knew that, it is not something we should forget.
2) Nyna's father (or grandfather) was an nasty piece of work.  Or he was a weak king and his overall government was filled with bad people (paging General Lang...).

Yeah, that place was a toilet awaiting a waterfall of bleach.

In the course of my 230-mile commute last Friday, I drove around the outskirts of Saginaw blasting "Shit Towne" by Live.  Very fitting.

FE12 got a 34/40 review at Famitsu-- equivalent to the score given FE11.  This worries me just a little.

Hey morons, what part of "reclass is optional" do you not understand?  How can something you don't have to use possibly ruin your gaming experience.  That's like me saying that the wifi battles for FE11 ruined my experience when I've never even played one!

Should I post a new story or go clean the bathroom?  I guess my husband will be more pleased by far if I clean the bathroom.  Sigh.

At least I bought a replacement charger for my DS....

That's right, go clean the bathroom!

plus someone from ffnet PM'd me

YAY, who is it, can I ask? :) More entries are always good.

For the record, your 'fic really impressed me. It deserved to win!

Repeat winners are bound to happen when you have a group as small as ours. The former FE Drabble community was much worse about that in my opinion; FE Contest feels pretty open to me, and that's despite my feeling like an outsider to the fandom in general.

Now that I'm done with that novel thing, I want to read everything from the last round. Take your time with the new theme. :P

FE12 got a 34/40 review at Famitsu

Math is my weakest subject, so I won't comment on the number, but it seems to me that we should be expecting a less-than-ideal score for a remake, especially when there isn't any news of a bigger, more original game on the horizon. Re-releases are kind of self-indulgent, and this would make the second FE game they've released that isn't new.

I'm still thrilled we get to play an updated version of FE3. I can also relate to people who want a new FE game, even if it's just another expansion of an existing world (eg: a prequel to FE8).

You cannot help being gifted at 'fic. :-) And, thus, you deserved to win.

*clicks link* So Hardin did more than simply join me and sit on the bench? This is reassuring. Characterization!

"How to live, how to live, how to live ... in Shit Towne!"

Famitsu scores became meaningless to me after I learned how that magazine is in the pocket of certain companies the same way all the U.S. magazines are in the pocket of, say, EA and Activision. (Square Enix pays big bucks to get good reviews.)

And a clean bathroom makes it easier to think of new 'fic. ;-)

More contestants for fe_contest is always a positive. ^_^ Congratulations on your win! Your fic was amazing. I look forward to seeing your theme. I hope that I'll be able to come up with something good for it so that I can participate, but that remains to be seen.

I hope that you'll choose to enter, but I certainly understand if you'd rather work on your WIPs. If you want to enter though, then I think that you should. Your writing is incredible. Setting high standards is not really a bad thing as it can encourage others to do better and if more people are expressing interest, then it can't be that intimidating. I'm sorry. I'll stop now. Ignore me please.[/unsolicited advice]

Archanea is rather a piece of work.

I wish that I understood the Famitsu scores better, but I read some stuff posted on this site (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3180280) mentioning a few details from reviews and I think it sounds promising. Only time will tell though. I want this game. The lack of a NA release date is upsetting me. -_-

Hey morons, what part of "reclass is optional" do you not understand? How can something you don't have to use possibly ruin your gaming experience. That's like me saying that the wifi battles for FE11 ruined my experience when I've never even played one!

Add Casual Mode (which no one has even tried yet) to that list also. And actually people have also started whining about the possibility that the orb shards might increase growths as they did in FE3 and we don't even know if that part was kept in. Don't want to use them then good. Have Marth send them all to the convoy when you get them.

Should I post a new story or go clean the bathroom? I guess my husband will be more pleased by far if I clean the bathroom. Sigh.

My vote is for new story, but that's irrelevant. :P

The heat is awful recently. I don't like to be hot. -_-

Congrats on the win! You really deserved it.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Famitsu score given the franchise's overall track record. I mean Seisen got a 31! Seems like a pretty solid review to me.

I suspected something similar re: Hardin and Archanea-the-kingdom, but having it actually spelled out -- ouch. And the info about the slave status of Aurelis, wow... that speaks loads about the political situation between Aurelis and Archanea when I'd assumed they were on a more equal basis, considering their origins.
