FE12: Weirdness Keeps Rolling Along
Jun. 20th, 2010 11:09 pm Well, if there was any doubt about the gaiden-chapter characters from Shadow Dragon making an appearance in FE12, this should resolve the issue. I'm crossing my fingers for Norne and Horace to show up, and maybe even Frey will be back from the "dead" in this installment. At this point, anything's possible.
Also, chatter has it that the four "Akaneia Senki BS" Satellaview things will be included as chapters in FE12, and I have mixed feeling on that one. On the one hand, I'm a completionist and these games have been, to this point, effectively lost. On the other hand, I don't like what some of these Satellaview installments (the Lena one especially) do to Archanea game canon, and having them be canon instead of a random weird thing buried in the past feels iffy to me right now.
All this continued craziness leads me more and more toward the idea of going on a 'fic hiatus until all the dust settles. Maybe I'll work on my FE8 stuff or just write FE11-based stuff that doesn't hinge on the whole grand storyarc.
Also: people who insist on calling Shadow Dragon "FEDS" and now call Shin Monshou "FE3DS" because they aren't real installments in the Fire Emblem franchise need to give it a rest. There is an upcoming piece of hardware called the 3DS and Shin Monshou isn't on it. They're called FE11 and FE12, so get over it. If your canon-purity credentials drive you to jump into threads and "correct" people who mention FE11 and FE12 so you can put the n00bs in their place, GET OVER IT. Or just don't use numbers at all and call them Shin Ankoku and Shin Monshou. But this "FE3DS" thing is very silly, not to mention confusing, and is the reason I changed my OWN tune and started calling the games 11 and 12.
Also, apparently Shin Ankoku is referred to as FE11 on the official website, but what would silly Nintendo people know about their own games?

Date: 2010-06-21 03:27 am (UTC)Ah, I'm kind of used to calling Shadow Dragon FEDS by now, if only because it's easier to type. And I originally assumed they'd move on to a new universe after the remake... FE3DS is just silly though. I guess I should start getting into the habit of FE11/12 (although, being anal, it annoys me even more now that they skipped over Gaiden, because now the numbers don't match up XD).

I think that's why I keep typing "FE13" for Shin Monshou.

Date: 2010-06-21 05:29 am (UTC)If they've got Athena, they have to bring Horace along too. He'd actually make storyline sense! Lately I've been thinking about what his role in FE3 would be, and would've written fic for it, but if there's a chance he might show up in FE12 I'd much rather see it in canon. (There are only so many directions his story can take, after all.) Oh, I would weep with happiness~
I can wish. And wish, and wish, and wish.
This makes me want to put the Minerva fic on hiatus too, though, because it depends heavily on FE3 to work. Maybe the release of FE12 will mean it'll have a wider audience.

Date: 2010-06-21 04:00 pm (UTC)Eh, I'm really ambivalent on the Nyna & Camus ones. The part I like best is the simple fact that Camus has some comrades in them (Raiden, Belf, and Robert), which gives him a bit of welcome context. But the Hardin & Minerva thing is very appealing and I'd love to see it "for real" in FE12. Still, there's something very goofy and, uh, fanficcy about the Satellaview games. Fanservicey, anyway.
He'd actually make storyline sense!
He sure would. It'd be awesome.
It'll be kind of weird to reckon with the possibility that the gaiden-chapter characters are "real" and can factor into the Monshou timeline somehow, but I guess FE3 did that same sort of space-time continuity mess by having Arran OR Samson be recruitable in Book One and yet including them both (with implied backstory) in Book Two.
Still, they might do something weird, like maybe the gaiden-chapter characters are unlockable in FE12 only if you've recruited them in FE11. I dunno. But as long as we're getting Wrys and some or all of the gaiden gang, I want my ballisticians back!
Maybe the release of FE12 will mean it'll have a wider audience.
I think we're seeing a little activity uptick already.

Date: 2010-06-21 08:23 pm (UTC)In defense of numbering conventions, I prefer to call the new games by their subtitles because they are remakes, rather than genuine new games in the series. This is mostly to avoid confusing myself. ^_^; But it also comes from being in Final Fantasy fandom and having a very set numbering structure. I do not insist upon it, though. 'Tis only my method.
I like calling this one HOLAS, personally. Sounds grander to me than FE12. ;-)
