It is WEIRD to me when someone identified with one particular role dies-- especially when they die fairly young, and you know they likely could've "become" someone else to the world of TV/film, but instead they'll be that one character forever.  Now, sometimes it's almost fitting, like when John Thaw died not long after the final Inspector Morse aired, but this just kind of sucks and I didn't even care about The Sopranos.   (He was easily the best thing in Zero Dark Thirty, though.)

So I'll just sit here being weirded out about it.

PS: I am pretty disgusted at the people who are shout "concern troll" and "body policing" at those who point out that while 51 is a depressingly early age for a talented man to die, that JG had a whole host of risk factors, like his very obvious weight gain from the beginning to the end of The Sopranos.  (Also smoking, IIRC.)  How in hell does pointing out that the dude was clearly carrying a lot of extra weight by the time of ZD30 count as a "concern troll"? Are we supposed to pretend that obesity didn't contribute to, say, John Candy's death just because OMG fat can be beautiful and overweight doesn't mean unhealthy?  Yeah, and sometimes people who smoke live to be 104.  That someone will most likely not be the chain smoker closest to you, just as "overweight" is more likely to be the 50-year-old friend of mine who's now on dialysis and missing multiple toes and has been in and out of the hospital all damn year.  Hint: not healthy.  Or my husband's fifty-something aunt, whose knees are giving out because of the excess weight on her frame (and, being a large-framed woman, she was a good example of 'big and beautiful' well into her forties), but she can't exercise because of the bad knees and just keeps getting heavier, and now her gallbladder's failed, and...

Not a way to end up before you're sixty.  My husband, seeing all this, has made moderate changes to diet and lifestyle and has dropped 25 pounds since January.  Yeah, he looks and feels better for it-- but he's also improved his chances of having two decent knees and all of his toes twenty years from now.  I had an eating disorder in high school that I didn't really get past until midway through college, so I hate Size 0 culture as much as anyone, but for fuck's sake acting like being genuinely overweight/obese is some purely cultural perception-type issue that magically won't degrade our quality of life if we just celebrate it is BS.  Sorry.

Unfortunately, for a lot of people there is no middle ground between "viciously insulting someone" and "not saying anything critical to anyone ever." Incidentally, these are probably the same people with "NO FLAMES!!!!!" in their ffnet profiles :P
