In Which Mark Anticipates "The Great Gatsby"

I can deal.  I mean, Jazz Age jazz is so quaint now.

"It's in 3D.  That makes you sick."

Um... I made it through at least one 3D movie before.  A short one.

"It has a cliche framing device and bloody voiceover narrations."

I can deal.  I can deal.

"They cut out the Nick/Jordan subplot."

Fuck you, Baz Luhrmann.  The careless, selfish and doomed relationship between totes gay Nick and pretty sure she's not straight either Jordan is my favorite subplot in the book.  Shit, that's where the whole "careless driver" motif comes from.  

Argh.  I may see it anyway, but fuckdammit.

I KNOW RIGHT. I want to see it because I love the book. But damn. That was a big part of the book, too. Like...a bit part. I felt. Important anyway. Derp.

I'm not even much of a fan of the book, but I can't get over how ridiculously inappropriate the soundtrack looks. I can understand wanting to use something besides jazz standards, but there has to be a better middle ground than Lana Del Rey and... whatever else is going on with that thing.

I'm really not sure what the soundtrack is trying to accomplish, from what I've seen. "20s versions" of Beyonce songs?

Then again the marketing team is selling it with stupid gifs on Tumblr, so I guess it's a target audience thing.

Not really feeling it. Cool cinematography from the trailers but meh. The only thing that really interested me from the book was Nick and Gatsby's subtext/text, and even then only mildly.

Well, that doesn't appeared to have carried over properly either from the reviews I've read.

Here's the thing about TGG: if you really think it's a love story about Gatsby and DAISY, you're missing the point. Sounds like Luhrmann either missed the point or cheerfully ignored it.

Baz + Leo = Uh-uh. You'd have to Clockwork Orange me to get me to watch it. (I can't stand Baz, and I don't much like Leo, either.)
