Miscellany
Apr. 28th, 2010 12:34 pmThe more things I need to do that have nothing to do with writing fiction, the more I want to write fiction.
I should be working on:
a) documents for contract negotiation
b) the presentation for my out-of-town speaking gig Saturday
c) the by-law revisions for an organization I'm in
d) number-crunching survey results for said organization's recent membership poll
Instead, I'm bouncing back and forth between "Dark Sun of Desire" and "Trinity," this stream-of-consciousness nonlinear (even more so than usual) Zeke 'fic I abandoned months ago. Is it weird that of all the incarnations of Camus-Zeke-Sirius, I like Zeke the best? Maybe it's because Camus "dies" and Sirius is just a disguise, but I can assume that Zeke just goes home and lives out his life with Teeta and a bunch of old memories, thereby turning the amnesiac persona into an integrated and meaningful persona. Yeah, Nyna's bound to show up at some point in the intervening decades, but Camus-as-Zeke has a chance at a life. Camus-as-Camus is some dead dude in the history books. And dollars to donuts, those history books don't tell the half of it.
Also, he and Alm can look forward to a neat relationship, since they're both really outsiders to Rigel and its culture and Alm knows even less about it than Zeke. And Alm is pretty well-adjusted and a cool kid all around and will get over the whole patricide thing eventually. Yep!

I was at a seminar Tuesday, and one of the speakers admitted she received her best ideas either in the shower or on her morning commute. I nearly shouted aloud, as I am in the same boat. If I could only sit down and write to my heart's content in the early morning, I'd be far more productive.
