Well, that chapter's finally done.
Melgen mission recap:
Boy, this is easier when Delmud can actually kill stuff and Lester can actually dodge. We wiped out Liza's party in one turn.
Celice with a 50-kill Silver Sword solves many problems. But not everything. That's why we have Shanan.
Darna mission recap:
Ares is demonstrating total good-guy behavior, so why is he still so gosh-darned unlikable? Ah, who cares, he's got the Mystletainn. I don't need to like him when he's this good of a unit.
We have so many units on the map now that the kills have to be parceled out so that everyone gets a chance at some exp.
Alster finale recap:
So, once we seized Melgen, Shanan'n'Larcei headed east in the company of Arthur and Lana. Lester and Del followed on their heels and Celice began making his way down there once Darna got taken. Leg Ring on Celice is such a nice thing. Knight Bracelet on Larcei is also something I don't regret, though I may give it to Laylea now that I have her.
Del finally got to meet his sister, who by this point was leveled higher than Del thanks to all the Alster mooks she killed. Alec!Del isn't bad, but his HP is still piss-poor and his RES is a liability. He's a mounted Defence Sword, which is good, and I do expect to get him to promotion this time, but OMG amazing he ain't.
Then Lana had her creepy and nonsensical reunion with her long-lost father and got +5 MAG out of it. Yay.
Then it was Arthur's time for a family reunion, which meant recruiting Tinny. It wasn't so bad this time around; my crack team of Shanan/Larcei and Leaf lured the Mage Sister Trio into the woods, and then the rest of the gang-- Del, Nanna, Lester, Arthur, and Lana-- moved in. This is where the peculiarities of Lex!Arthur actually came in handy. He was sturdy enough and dodgy enough to withstand attacks from Tinny's squad-- so sturdy, in fact, that Wrath never kicked in and he couldn't actually do any harm to Tinny with his pathetic little Wind-tickles. So now I have Wrambush!Tinny, who can stagger around at shockingly low levels of HP and, propped up by my Charisma bots, can do all kinds of fun Elthunder damage. She's Robo-Tinny, a little damaged machine girl emitting sparks and causing mayhem. Fun.
After Tinny executed the remaining member of her own squad and the whole crew took on the last onslaught of Alster mooks, Celice and Leaf finally had their little chat. Then Aless took out Blume to end the chapter and nab that Silver Blade that nobody passed down in Gen 1. Yay.
Also got Laylea, for whatever she's worth.
So, going into Chapter 8...
Leaf is Level 15, with 21 STR and 15 DEF. Holy moly, I don't regret giving him the Elite Ring.
Speaking of Elite, Robo-Tinny is Level 15 as well after some trips through the arena. Not bad given I just recruited her.
Arthur is Level 21 and a promoted Mage Knight packing Thoron and a sword. His MAG is now a whopping 12, the entire increase over his base of 8 coming from his promotion gains. Twenty-one levels gained and not a single point of MAG. Wow. So now he's a dude on a horse with a sword who can hit stuff who can kinda do magic if you whittle his HP down and give him a powerful tome. I'm not writing him off, but he's a very weird creature. But I wasn't completely sold on Finn!Arthur until Endgame and Lex!Arthur now has four entire chapters to stomp through on his horse, so we'll see.
Holyn!Patty is a respectable enough Level 5. The Sleep Sword is regrettably inconsistent but she can do a bit of damage with the Hero Sword and play around a little in the arena thanks to Luna so she's OK. She picked up the Shield Ring and I may let her keep it instead of selling it off.
Everybody else is doing OK and I think this next chapter will really settle their trajectory as units.
