Dear Chrom/male!Robin shippers:

I like this pairing.  Wouldn't mind reading 'fic for it.  However, if the "Avatar" you're writing about is not the character from the actual game, the one who has loads and loads of conversations with every playable character defining his (or her) personality, but is instead an OC in the Strategist role bearing the looks and name of "your self-insert," there is a special place in FANFICTION HELL for you.

A tiny, delusional part of me hoped that the Avatar having a specific personality and story would cut down on the glorified-OC stuff. Nnnnope.
IDK, I like Chrom/m!Robin, but I'm not sure I care enough to write it. I mean, I like it for reasons I like other things a lot more strongly, things that other people don't write, so I'm not sure I'll see a point in it yet.

Honestly, I'd be far more inclined to read anything with a tactician if these people had

a. consistency with the actual character

b. it had to do with things NOT romancing a character

and on the potential humorficfront:

c.if it's gonna act like you, stop pretending like you're all suave and cool and stuff, we all know you are making everyone get married and frankly, a fic addressing how awkward it is to have your tactician /force/ you to be around someone you hate (or bear other feelings for, in and out the romantic spectrum) could be interesting/insightful/ or just plain funny

You're defeating the reason of the Avatar/ My Unit, (s)he is the Shepard of Awakening(without being the Lord, but co protagonist), (s)he is the player want to be, to proportionate the 'western development favorite word' Immersion into the videogame.

In fact, I'll write my own Self insert when have the chance of play awakening.

But since every line the character gets is written into the game without the ability to change it (to my knowledge), it's not a true avatar. Even Commander Shepard has certain traits and elements that the player can't handwave away (I can't use the excuse of "total immersion" to write a nervous, flighty Shepard and expect it to still fly as possible canon, for instance).

Well, there was that "Mute Robin" option in the Japanese version. I think they took it out of the demo but I'm not sure it it's in the NoA release.

However, both male and female Robin have distinct personalities, whereas the FE7 Tactician had none. At all. Under any circumstances. FE7 self-inserts at least make sense. An FE13 self-insert takes out the character in the game with the most dialogue and erases him/her. At that point, you may as well be replacing Chrom with someone else.

Oh dear god all these fanfics. It truly is like a demon awakened from the depths of hell and now there's no escape the upcoming 200 ChromxRobin fluff fics and other imminent shipping fodder.

I really hope people start exploring more interesting concepts from Awakening than, say, "how many Robin fics I can write."

Given the sheer number of 'fics that still begin with "My self-insert wakes up on the planes of Sacae with no memory and a beautiful swordswoman staring down at him," I wouldn't hold my breath.
