Why Renais Twins Have No Mom (Crack)

A compendium of hypotheses on why Renais Twins!Mom is so absent the kids never even mention her despite this being a franchise that reveres heroic parental units and especially mommies.

1) She died in childbirth (because twins) and Fado, like Teddy Roosevelt, never mentioned her again. The twins don't even think about her.

2) Sloppy scripting.

3) Fado, like Eph, was "reckless" in his youth and knocked up some random village girl who sent the twins to court but refused to show up herself.

4) Since Renais is a sexist place, as we have determined elsewhere, the princess of Renais donned a false beard and passed herself off as a warrior king. Nobody asked too many questions about the twins 'cause nobody wanted to know.

5) TwinsMom got bored with Fado and ran off with a charismatic traveling monster hunter who turned out to be an imperial prince of Rausten. They had L'Arachel together and died hunting monsters; Fado kept quiet about the whole business to avoid a war and the entire subject of TwinsMom was taboo. Then Ephraim married L'Arachel and oh noes DEMONSPAWN.

I'm down with Option #5. :)

I'd favour 4 because of the Awesomeness. Next best would be 3, I'd say.

Sadly, no. I think this one goes in the bin with the general sloppy worldbuilding-- oh, we forgot. Or we ran out of time. Woops.

Those last three are pretty awesome ideas, but it's probably actually some amalgam of 1 and 2.

(5 is the best though)

This post progressively got more awesome. I'd say the "death of the father" trope probably disfavors 4. On the other hand, series trends are all for 5.

Five is the best, imo, but I would go with some combination of one and two. (Headcanon says she got sick at some point in the twins' early childhood and passed away, and that the generally accepted rule is that you just don't talk about it.)

I guess I just don't get why no one talks about it. I don't even need the twins to acknowledge it, but at least have a mention like the Marcus/Lilina supports discussing Eliwood's wife! And again... the entire franchise makes a great deal of the mother-child bond and not just the dead dad trope. Marth's mom, Cellica's mom, all the FE4/5 moms, Roy's mom, Eleanora, Elena... even if dead offscreen, they merit a mention. TwinsMom? Nope.

I honestly don't think it was sloppy scripting. It would be weird for someone to constantly reference to their dead parent- especially if said parent has been dead for a long time ago. (JRPG and Anime is really weird about this one)And hey, luckily we don't get a Path of Radiance terrible voice acting skit where Ephraim looks at Eirika and sees his mom and Eirika shrills "You're awake! BOUT TIMMMEEEEE"

I don't expect a constant stream of references, but I'd expect one of the kids, in one support, to at least mention that they had a mother and didn't hatch out of an egg. Given Innes and Tana have living parents, cross dialogue between Renaitians and Frelians would've been a perfect time. Or how about when L'Arachel brings up her own dead parents?

Instead we get zip zero nada zilch and don't even know her name.
