Honest-to-pete, a straight-faced reading of FE4 basically leads to two likely scenarios for First Gen:

1) Far from being a place of cozy love matches as seen in the manga, aside from the Canon Married Couples it was all furtive hookups and nobody knowing who/what anyone else was doing.

2) Either that or it was one big free-for-all and even the moms weren't sure where their kids came from without a visit to the fortune-teller.

Because the information we get by Gen 2 is just too ridiculous.  I can understand Briggid's kids not knowing who their father was (um, doesn't Briggid have friends you could ask) but for any of the Tirnanogue kiddies not to know is just weird.

:P

Bringing up the fortune-teller makes the whole thing even more ridiculous. I'm too lazy to check if there is one at Tirnanogue, but seriously, all those paternity questions could have been solved in one visit. And if they wanted to know who their father was, why didn't any of them try to find a fortune-teller ?

Fortune-Teller: "I charge a fixed percentage per reading. By the time Leaf grew a beard, I was able to retire."

... That ties in pretty well with the issue of Edain's and Lachesis's kids' physical appearance ...

Gameplay Mechanics =! Narrative

As swanchika bring it, using the fortune teller was ridiculous, because that is a gameplay mechanics for the player not the characther, in fact the Fortune Teller is other 'gameplay mechanics who got reduced by X reasons'.

And the whole ambiquity with the father and sons was to avoid the dreaded OTP scenarios(for that in FE13 use similar case, the sons are the mother reflex, with few father traits), even if Kaga secretly support LevinxFury and AzelxTiltyu.

I was wondering how would have been if the whole Judgral epic was in CD instead cartidge, Intelligent Systems and Kaga would have realized their whole vision of the epic? FE5 would still would exist or become sidequest or FE4? those are the questions who are lost in the history.

Honestly, for me, Excuse my French. Fire Emblem 5 was a abortion, was a game made as estraz of other(Fire Emblem 64 who only leave some weird POR-esque screenshots) to avoid Intelligent Systems to be eaten back by Nintendo(that and Paper Mario save those guys), in general much of the game would be perfectly made for the N64 with some cut and 20fps
