FE4 Hacks, Cont.
Aug. 14th, 2012 12:19 amSo, I've been watching some of the FE4 fan-hack playthroughs on NicoNico; you need an account to watch the videos but it's worth it.
Unlike Genealogy of Narga, Genealogy of Fala ( ファラの系譜, thanks Ammie!) is easy to follow.
Chalphys are swapped out for Velthomers, Thracians for Silesians, Freeges for the Lenster crew and vice versa. Jungbys replace Dozels and the Odo blood gang trades places with the Hezul clan. So, even without an English translation, a sequence like this is at least comprehensible:
My best guess is, Levin tells Arthur he's doing a shitty job of defending the homeland from Julia's army. Fee sticks up for Arthur, but Levin then goes off to tell Sety and Uncle So-and-So that they'd better batten down the hatches and keep Julia's people OUT. And if Sety doesn't toe the line, Miranda's gonna pay for it. Then we get a scene between Julia, Tactician Trabant, and Cyas the resident Jagen. Then Tinny asks Olwen why she's been mopey lately and gets told that the Silesianwarlock Mage Fighter with telltale not-green hair is *gasp!* Tinny's long-lost brother and Tinny needs to recruit him and stuff. I mean, maybe the girls are talking fashion and Tinny's telling Olwen she really needs to get with modern styles and do something new with her hair because it's just not 759 anymore, but I think it's a safe bet to say they're discussing Arthur.
Consequently, a scene like this-- a boss battle from Ch 5 featuring a canon character who never appeared in any games-- makes sense, too. The older dude with the major Nova blood is Cuan's father, King Calf, who's occupying Reptor's spot in this hack. I presume he's been making life hell for Alvis and the gang[*]. Anyway, two other holy-blooded characters soften Calf up, and then he has a dialogue with his renegade nephew Finn, because this is where the Reptor-Tiltyu boss conversation would goif you don't just kill Reptor with one nice Holsety blast over the cliffs. Then Alvis finishes off Calf and has a friendly chat with Noish, and it's off to the victory party at Sigurd's place. Sigurd's bringing the entertainment.
* My concern about this hack is that, unless they actually put work into the script, it'd be a little too neat. I hope Alvis is being, well, Alvis and getting trapped by his own ambitious overreach and not bumbling about the continent like Sigurd in canon. I'm not buying Alvis as a wide-eyed innocent for one second. And Sigurd... well, I already pointed out his deficiencies as a plotter in other posts. Criminal mastermind he is not.
These are about the only videos on YouTube for this hack, but pretty much the whole game is available to view at Nico Nico... along with some commercials for the hack and some other bonus goodies.

Also there's a whole bunch of weird stuff, including one FE4 crack playthrough I won't be trying any time soon-- a Gen 2 run using ONLY Shanan, Oifaye, and Finn... and Shanan's used sparingly. And the dude didn't even make it easy on himself by bringing in a Lvl 30 Finn with the Brave Lance-- nope, he used un-promoted Level 1 Finn with an iron spear in Chapter 7. That doesn't even sound fun. :(
