So, Delmud and his loser compadres Lester and Scrabblebits had their moment of awesome, or at least competence.  I sent the Tirnanogue Bros to Lenster to defend that seemingly accursed place from the 53rd wave of enemies (Trabant's goons this time around) and they actually pulled it off.  Delmud stood atop the castle waving his Defence Sword and couldn't kill anything but he didn't die, either-- they never got a hit on him.  Boy's learned to dodge (and he's Dew's kid, so he should've been able to from birth, but whatever).

I did send Finn along to babysit the Bros because I didn't trust them, and they did need some help, especially with the squadron captain, so that safety net was justified.  But mostly the Bros proved themselves capable; I presume Finn took the boys out for drinks afterwards.

Meanwhile, the actual value-added members of my army dealt with Manster and Mease.  The end phase of Chapter 8 was like the opening to Chapter 3 in that Celice Army has finally gelled and can pull off some nice complicated assaults where everyone does their part and Leen guarantees that the best characters pull double duty.  Characters that were under-leveled at the beginning of the chapter, like Leaf and Tinny, have blossomed into remarkable little death-dealers;  Tinny has the personality of a wet dishrag but I like her far better than I ever liked her mom.  And Faval is as tanky a sniper as his dad Jamka was, which is much appreciated given cousin Lester's fragility.  And Lex!Leen can actually fight.  -_-

Oh.  And Sety.  Holsety!Sety, aka Canon Sety no matter what crazy Fury!pairings you can do in FE4.

Yeeeeah.  The hype is totally 100% justified.

Sety's kind of funny, though, because in spite of the fangasms over him, he completely lacks Levin's style and panache.  I mean, Levin is, like, the Fonz of FE4.  He's got the clothes, the hip lingo, the 'tude, the chick on his arm, and even when he's a subdued undead adult he's still rocking the ponytail.  Sety's got a seriously boring, even ugly, outfit on his FE4 sprite (unlike many characters, he's actually good at this incognito prince business), and in FE5, he's basically in what appears to be standard dress for men in Northern Thracia.  Oh, and in terms of personality?  Puhleeze.  Levin's... Levin, one of the most indelible characters in FE canon.  Sety's 100% SRS BZNS, a :| character to Levin's ;P.  You can chalk that up to being raised by Fury, because Fee is NOT a mini-version of her mom and so Sety got to inherit the "dutiful and responsible" part of Fury's characterization instead of being left a muddle.  But as [personal profile] amielleon  pointed out last night, the end effect is that Sety ends up resembling Finn in disposition more than any of the other Gen1 guys.  Just one of those weird things (like Lester's being a mini-Lex when Lex ain't predestined for Aideen) that makes you wonder what got changed early on in game development.

Now, I love Sety, but the contrast between him and Levin is pretty hilarious given how often they're lumped together as HOLSETY!!!!111 when they're different enough that I suspect it would've been an... interesting... relationship even if Levin hadn't been compelled to ditch the family.

[At the end of FE4 Levin's son offers a glowing testimonial as to how wonderful his father is and how kid wants to Be Just Like Dad.  Even if said kid is Sety.  I call bullshit, especially if it's coming from Sety.  And I'd be suspicious of the dude myself if I were Arthur or Corple.  Corple knows what good parenting is thanks to Hannibal and Arthur doesn't appear to really care about the whole father angle.]

Another thing about the characterization of Sety and Fee.  Since they were retroactively canonized as Levin's kids, I keep having to remind myself that they're not that in this game.  When Fee gave her backstory to Arthur in chapter six, I was impressed at how cagey she was in not telling too much about herself... without being maddeningly vague like some of the other kids.  Then I remembered that as far as this game is concerned, she can be Ardan's kid and not the princess of Silesia at all, so she wasn't being that cagey.  They're still arguably the best kidlets without fixed parents in this game.

Yay Sety.

I bet you could solo the whole game on out, with the exception of Julius and his Dark Warlords, with Holsety!Sety.

With occasional pit stops for weapon repair and money-grabbing village-saving.
