Fire Emblem: Götterdämmerung
Feb. 22nd, 2012 04:50 pmOK. So I was daydreaming away in a meeting, wondering if it would be worthwhile to write a post-FE4 story in which Leaf dies and Altenna unites Thracia. Then Raphi sends me a link to the new trailer for FE13.
Here. I have annotated the video with appropriate references.
So, we start off with a bluish blob of light racing through the clouds, which then descends on what appears to be Castle Altea.
A glowing butterfly emerges from the blob of light... and is nearly stepped on by a soldier marching along in formation. They're goose-stepping. Cue a rain of arrows, fire, and music that's appropriately "epic" and overblown. Black blobs of darkness chase the light and coalesce into an eeeeevil-looking black dragon with glowing red eyes.
Scene transition to burning castle. Lone figure sprinting in graceful slo-mo toward the light. He has a blue cape lined in red. He has blue hair. He has a tiara. And he's wearing a mask. A very familiar tune plays...
Then Krom drops into the scene, swinging his Binding Blade Falchion. Krom and the masked kid have identical swords. They're hacking and slashing in a flurry of light, and then the butterfly shows up again. Human figures are raining down from the sky through a luminous portal. The light-blob goes up and circles Emelina, who stands on an outcrop of rock and sheds a single glowing tear. It falls on what appears to be the world map... of Archanea.
Then we see some scenes from battle animations, complete with voice acting. Then it's back to epic mode, with the faces of Krom, Masked Dude, and some hooded person all reflected in the Binding Blade Falchion sword thingy. The trailer closes with five gems being inserted into a shield. That's the complete logo.
Wow. Wow. Epic mash-up Dragon's Gate crossover? I mean, what?
Oh yes, ending text: two dragons, two heroes, the awakening of the dragons, and the "world's ending."
Oh, and it's coming out in Europe. Many, many props to Raphi for flagging this to me.
PS: I think "all-new" just meant "not a remake."

As to his mental state and moral compass, I guess we're gonna have to wait.
