Turkey Day Update
Nov. 24th, 2011 09:09 pmThanksgiving went well. Small splashes of drama, but nothing too bad.
The spouse and I provided the following:
Sweet Potato Gratin (me)
Cornbread Stuffing w/ sausage and chestnuts (me)
Cranberry-Orange Relish (him)
Innkeeper's Pie, which is a sort of "cake batter poured in a pie crust with sauce underneath" thing. It's a favorite in my mother's family. (me)
I was literally baking cornbread at two AM to get all this staged, so I'm glad it turned out well.

Zelda: Skyward Sword is probably the most engaging Zelda console game since the 2D era. We're about 2.5 hours in, and I'm genuinely excited to see where it goes next. I don't think Ocarina of Time really aged that well (I have been trying to play the 3D remake, and... snooze), Twilight Princess just seemed overly serious and honestly quite dull, and I liked the aesthetic and feel of Wind Waker but wasn't enchanted by it. Skyward Sword is just hitting on so many ideal points for me already that I can't wait to see where things are headed. It's sweet, and sly, and has already thrown up out unexpected creepy dark moment, and the bird thing is wonderful.
[Never got far in Majora's Mask because our version was buggy and kept crashing.]

So behind on NaNo that it's not funny. I am also behind on correspondence and laundry. Sigh.

Date: 2011-11-25 04:41 am (UTC)I've played almost all the games, barring the CDI ones >.> And I'd have to say my favorite is Majora's Mask, along with the gameboy titles next (Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and Link's Awakening), then followed by A Link to the Past, then Ocarina. I love them all but MM was my favorite, and SS looks really promising. >.>;
Hopefully I can get away from Skyrim for two seconds before I try playing SS.

Date: 2011-11-25 09:08 am (UTC)I really like Zelda, but somehow the release of SS totally took me by surprise. XD I thought they still need time to develop it. So behind the news. And now I'm not ready yet to buy it.
The graphics look really pretty. Zelda´s design looks kinda strange on screenshots, though.

Date: 2011-11-25 03:09 pm (UTC)It's a fresh take on Link and Zelda as characters, too-- as big a break with tradition as Wind Waker. This, to me, is a plus.

Date: 2011-11-25 08:52 pm (UTC)My husband prefers the Zelda handhelds to any of the GC/Wii ones. He really, really liked Phantom Hourglass. His favorite is Link's Awakening, though.

Date: 2011-11-25 09:01 pm (UTC)Though, I think I still have some games. If I find it ever I'll tell you xD

Date: 2011-11-26 08:51 am (UTC)Now that you mention it, though, that might be intentional considering the art style of the game. Since most of our view of Link isn't in close-up, and the visuals have got this sort of Impressionism thing going on the farther away things get, it would make sense to over-emphasize his facial features to get his expressions across.
