No, this isn't about reincarnation or her true gender or anything like that.

Apparently, when Nagi is recruited in FE12, she has some recollection of encountering Marth, or at least finds him familiar.  He doesn't remember her, because in the "canon" timeline wherein Tiki was recruited and Gharnef got whacked, there wasn't any trip into unseen dimensions to encounter undead dragon ladies.

Nagi can also sense something "special" about MyUnit, btw.  In the Oops-the-Fourth-Wall-Just-Broke kind of sense.

So, given Nagi's pretty much God, how's this work?  Does undead amnesiac dragon god lady have access to memories of alternate timelines?  Do I have to get into string theory to explain this one (please no)?

[I don't think Nagi/Narga is looking at Marth and remembering, say, Celice either.  Narga was really hands-off about dealing with the Jugdral humans.  She (yes, SHE) blood-bonded with Saint Heim and hightailed it back home, from the sound of things.]

You've got me, man.  Suggestions welcome.

Looks like a wink-wink nudge-nudge from the developers there.

Anyway...

Is it possible that Nagi was awake at an earlier point in Archanea's history? Say, to see Anri?

This is my suspicion, especially if Anri is the first person to wield the Falchion and / or be contacted by OOC!Gotoh.

Re: what I said to Ammie, the way that the whole Nagi encounter in FE11 is presented as Desperate Contingency Plan For Screwups makes me kind of uncomfortable with this.

Oh, they were definitely being cute with the audience.

Say, to see Anri?

I'm not comfortable with this explanation, and here's why:

Waking Nagi and getting the Crappy!Falchion is a ploy of last resort, to be used only if Marth screwed up multiple aspects of his little hero quest. Gotoh clearly thinks less of Marth for having to resort to this. Anri didn't screw up. No need to travel to unseen dimensions, no need to wake Nagi, no need to piss off Gotoh.

(Though IMO it appears Anri didn't impress Gotoh the way Marth ultimately did, probably because of the lone-wolf characteristics I mentioned the other day.)

IDK. The Anri explanation just goes against the grain of things a little too much for me to say, "Yeah, that's it."

Echoing the rest when I say I think she's hinting at Anri. They do look alike in the "well yeah he's my great-great uncle, but genetics do strange things and sometimes hide for generations" sense.

Besides, Marth looks manlier than Celice. /shot

I don't think she means how he looks, I think she's talking about "Marth" in the sense of his life essence or whatever. Remember the line in FE11 about souls calling out?

Which makes me like the Anri explanation even less.

Well that makes things slightly more disturbing if he and Anri share the same "life essence" or whatever.

Maybe part of Anri's will was stored in Falchion?

I don't think Anri had anything to do with it. I think the developers were being cute and set up a time paradox in the process. Nagi and Marth met previously. He doesn't remember it, she can't remember much of anything anyway, and the timeline as everyone knows it doesn't allow for it.

Maybe the floor plan of 24X is indeed a TARDIS and Nagi's a Time Lord.

Dammit, Mark, now I want a Doctor Who/Fire Emblem crossover.

My take was just that while we have our 'canon' events of FE11, it seems a little off to discount the chapter where she appears, so that was probably an alternate universe. So when Nagi appears in FE12 she vaguely remembers her universes Marth.

Yep.

I agree that's one of the best explanations, and possibly IS the explanation we're supposed to hit, but how's the crossing of the timelines work?

You may have to put a letter in to Anna for that explanation.
