Character Death Headcanon, 1.5
Aug. 22nd, 2011 10:33 pmAs
raphiael hasn't posted the "death headcanon" meta she's been promising, here's some of mine. That Elibe headcanon post was effectively the equivalent for that gameverse, and this is the Archanea/Valencia installment. If the Valencia stuff looks similar to something someone posted on the anon meme some time ago, it's because I was that anon! Some of the others will be familiar to you from various 'fics.
I’m keeping in mind that, in many games, human characters in their early-to-mid thirties are in no sense treated as youngsters, while characters in their fifties and sixties are often treated as decrepit. In other words, forty years of age seems to be very definitely Over the Hill.
Valencia:
Zeke, International Man of Mystery, lives longer than he has any right to and dies peacefully surrounded by his harem and various offspring.
Bowy-- accidentally blows himself up in his late twenties
May-- traumatized by the death of her partner Bowy, but gets better in the end and becomes a sharp-tongued old lady
Jesse-- the new king of the desert ends up dead from an infected wound, aged fortyish. He is mourned by his wife, Est.
Saber-- alcoholism, dude. Jenny carries on thereafter.
Claire, Robin, and Gray-- IMO this turns into a mid-life trainwreck. Robin ends up dead, Gray drowns his sorrows in booze, and Claire leaves in disgust. She always did want to bang Alm, anyway.
Ryuto just vanishes in the end. Maybe he’s still around, somewhere...
Maisen-- not as old as he looks, Maisen lives well into the reign of his “grandson” Alm.
Alm & Cellica-- have a long and happy partnership and die from natural causes in venerable old age. I figure Cellica outlives Alm by maybe a year or two.
Archanea:
Elice and Linde and other users of light magic and holy magic live a loooong time in my headcanon. They age slowly and can reach the century mark with ease, and death ends up pretty much being a deliberate act of surrender once they’ve had enough.
Merric, OTOH, is hit with the Ill Boy stick in canon. I doubt he makes it out of his forties.
Cain is just so awesome that he’s still working (desk job, mind) by the time he kicks it... in his eighties. My headcanon puts him with Marcus among the guys who just won’t quit.
Abel comes crawling back to his homeland to die after he finally realizes he’s not going to live happily ever after with Est. It only took him a couple of decades...
Draug-- heart attack in middle age. Dude weighs HOW much? He’s lucky to last that long!
Catria-- another workaholic, goes off on one last mission (goodwill trip to her old friends in Valencia) and never returns.
Palla-- is fortunately not around for this, having checked out via natural causes a good ten years earlier.
Luke-- loses a knife fight after becoming a professional gambler
Wolf-- he does so pull Suicide By Cop in battle
Rody-- Becomes the famous awesomest paladin of his generation but kicks it on a mission against those pesky barbarians.
Gordin-- Plague. Shouldn’t have traded Altea for city life in Pales
Roshea-- becomes a penitent monk, overdoes the penitent thing and gets pneumonia.
Norne-- lives to be a lively old lady with a trove of stories for the kids.
Yubello-- When I’m feeling nice, I pretend he marries Maria and they have little magical kiddies. When I’m not feeling nice, I figure he kicks it from TB early. Real early.
Yumina-- I really can’t decide. Something tells me an enforced stay in a convent is involved.
Ellerean-- Is an old man when they pry the keys to Khadein from his dead fingers.
Astram-- See entry for Zeke, replace “harem” with “Midia.” The gods favor dumbasses.
Michalis-- he ded from Gharnef, and I don’t care what FE12 says
Marth-- If good old King Anri was 17/18 at the time of his initial exploits, he made it to 57/58, according to the official timeline. But nobody paints Anri as a damned starry-eyed woobie child with iffy stats (including that shit RES stat), Very Special personality “issues,” and the entire archipelago to manage. So, I’ll give Marth about half what his famous ancestor got as far as the length of his reign goes.
Caeda-- Is therefore available for a second-run romance with Ogma back in scenic Talys.
The formatting is so jacked up these days!
ETA to add Norne and fix some math. Oh, maths!

Date: 2011-08-23 04:16 am (UTC)I may save it for ~meta September~. Or maybe I'll do it tomorrow.
Leaning toward the latter now.
Anyway, the bit about the extended lifespan for light users is really interesting. Is that just pure headcanon, or is there something leading to that idea?
And ahahaha, Zeke and his harem. Seems quite like him to get off easy in the end.

Date: 2011-08-23 08:55 am (UTC)Linde's dad was a contemporary of Gharnef-- they went to school together. Yet he's always portrayed as being a youngish man with dark hair and dark mustache. Given FE's treatment of "old" people, something didn't add up.

Date: 2011-08-23 03:52 pm (UTC)And now I want to write some Marth/Caeda/Oguma fic. Idk how that would work out though, haha.
Also wrt Cain (because I forgot this in my original comment) he would totally stick around for a looooong time. He'll he could very easily outlive his liege and focus on helping Marth's kids and everything.
Also yeah idk what is up with LJ's formatting but it seems to like to eat double spacing. Unless it's just me and the fact that I am viewing this on my iPod. I don't know. Sometimes I still get those stupid varnish errors and can't view profiles. It's annoying.

Date: 2011-08-23 07:18 pm (UTC)Well, yeah. Everything about Cain's presentation in FE3 just screams "The next Jeigan" (boo on FE12) so, that's pretty much how I figure it. Cain's a source of continuity across reigns.

Date: 2011-08-23 04:51 am (UTC)Marth living to 24~25? I'm not huge into Archanea, but just from what I know, I might even say that's a generous estimate.
Incidentally, Marth has a 2% Res growth...and that's still better than every single Str-oriented class in his game (save for the peg knights)...yeahhh, some of the growths in FE11 are all screwed up XD

Date: 2011-08-23 09:00 am (UTC)Oh crap, I borked the math there. Add ten-odd years to that. I was rewriting things repeatedly after having LJ cuts fuck up the text, and that was one of the ones I had to do over.
Part of my argument is that Alm and Leaf both get massive panegyrics as their character endings-- Alm gets celebrated as the founder of a "thousand year dynasty" and such. Marth's ending text? "Worked tirelessly to restore the kingdoms of Archanea." That was just so... terse and un-fun sounding in comparison.

Date: 2011-08-23 05:44 am (UTC)Yumina's is especially sad. :/
What are your thoughts on Miverva and Maria's final fate? The whole monastery thing for Minerva seems really odd. I maybe a little off, but I can get the whole "Must be with my sister!" mentality (because don't they both go to live at Rena's monastery...? I might be incorrect on that.) but ...I mean...she does kinda have a kingdom to run...

Date: 2011-08-23 01:37 pm (UTC)I think FE3 specifically states it's Lena's convent, and FE12 doesn't.
...I mean...she does kinda have a kingdom to run...
You'd think! But no, either she hands it off to Marth, who needs another kingdom like he needs a knife in the back, or come FE12 she gives it back to her brother to use as his personal base for launching another war against parties unknown.
Maria I just don't know about. I depends on how badly the soul-breaking damaged her, you know? As I said above, I sometimes imagine her entering into a shy romance with Yubello based around magic geekery and horrible life experiences. As for Minerva, I'd like to think she eventually gets her nerve back and ventures out of that convent to do something in the world. But Macedon post-FE12 just really irks me because it all seems so morally FUBAR.

Date: 2011-08-23 04:03 pm (UTC)I don't know why, but at the thought of him getting another kingdom, I could see him facepalming, looking to Cain, and going, "Can't she hand it off to someone else?" No, Marth, she can't. You easily own like, most of the continent. This is what happens when people think you are awesomely special.
or come FE12 she gives it back to her brother to use as his personal base for launching another war against parties unknown.
Personally I (and Marth) like this idea better. XD
I sometimes imagine her entering into a shy romance with Yubello based around magic geekery and horrible life experiences.
Also aside from that, Yubello and Maria would be utterly adorable together. Yes.

Date: 2011-08-23 01:30 pm (UTC)Heh. Yeah, me either, but I do! And Cain just always struck me as the type...
The Yubello/Yumina fates are harsh.
Blame IS for leaving everything so goshdarn murky concerning them. :(
I suspect Yumina gets up to political trouble of some sort, somewhere along the line.

Date: 2011-08-23 03:40 pm (UTC)Granted, I came up with the Cain-thing independent of Marcus, but I enjoy the parallel.
If they ever made a sequel to the Marth games, Cain should totally be the Jeigan. A cool Jeigan, not a sucky one.
