I stole this from [livejournal.com profile] raphiael, in the sense I lifted the text from there. But obviously it's been goin' around.

Name a character and I will give the following for that character.

A) My OTP
B) The runner up
C) The anti-ship
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why

Fandoms-- FE (though I might not have opinions on a bunch of characters for 4/5 and 9/10), Utena, Ranma 1/2, Gundam Wing, Harry Potter, and BSSM.  Feel free to ask from at least two fandoms per request to mix things up.

Also, after twenty-four hours in the Mid-South, I feel some accent meta coming on.  If I can get my head together.

ETA: Wow, LJ is indeed being weird.

Serra:

A) My OTP-- Serra/Hector. I don't care it it's "not canon," I like to fantasize about all the mess that would entail should Serra actually get what she appears (on the surface) to want. Also, they're pretty hot together.
B) The runner up-- Serra/Oswin. I like the possibilities it offers re: Wendy and a future at the Ostian court. And Oswin seems like he could handle her. :)
C) The anti-ship-- I enjoy Serra and Matthew as co-conspirators, but as romance it just doesn't work for me.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- IMO, everything about Serra is always going to come down to What's Best for Serra. Self-preservation is going to trump anything else, including romance and family. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, though it very well could be.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Raven. More than anything else, I think Serra wants security, and that's the last thing Raven has to offer.

Serra/Hector! I think she should've been a canon wife choice for Hector.

*nod* I think Serra's sense of self-preservation is both selfish and not selfish...considering the life she's led who can blame her for wanting to look out for herself?

Fiora, Florina, and Makoto Kino!

Date: 2011-08-22 08:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mark-asphodel.livejournal.com
Fiora:
A) My OTP-- eh, I like her with Sain and with Eliwood for different reasons. Sain coming to Ilia would be best for her, but she would IMO be very good for Eliwood.
B) The runner up-- I like her just fine with Kent, thanks. In fact, I like it better than a lot of red knight/peg sis pairings.
C) The anti-ship-- with Geitz. Geitz isn't my kind of guy.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- Fiora excites strong opinions? I guess my unpopular opinion is that a romance with Kent is A-OK and not some kind of OOC travesty.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Hector, because... well, I don't know why. I'd have to understand why she likes Geitz before I'd know why she doesn't go for Hector.

Florina
A) My OTP-- with Lyn. Lovely friendship/sisterhood/love bond out on the plains.
B) The runner up-- Alone. Alone, strong, independent, alive, yay Florina!
C) The anti-ship-- Florina/Hector. I don't find it cute, I don't find it sweet, and I'd rather keep the squishy sister alive to mature.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- See "C" above.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Eliwood. Must've been the sword that scared her off.

Makoto--
A) My OTP-- Don't have one. Like her by herself.
B) The runner up- Um... none. Sorry.
C) The anti-ship-- whichever one of the Four Kings she was "supposed" to be with-- Nephrite?
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- not a bully OR a clingy Haruka fangirl at her core.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why--I don't think she was really in love with that "sempai" character; it just seems more like schoolgirl obsession. She'll get over it.

Minerva. :-)

Date: 2011-08-20 05:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mark-asphodel.livejournal.com
Minerva...

A) My OTP-- I ship her, post-war, with Jeorge. Because Jeorge is the only man competent enough, self-contained enough, pragmatic enough, and stable enough to deserve the troubled former princess of Macedon.
B) The runner up-- She and Palla make a lovely couple, though, don't they?
C) The anti-ship-- Minerva/Navarre. The hell? I realize he's pretty, but no amount of mental gymnastics makes that work for me.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- she got out of that damned convent in the end. Cared for orphans the rest of her life, my ASS.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Marth. She seems to have latched onto him as a savior very early on, and FE11 makes it seems like there's a weird undercurrent of something in their dynamic, but I sure wouldn't call it love. It's just... interesting.

Minerva / Palla. I wonder why that one did not occur to me? I must, of course, investigate this further. :-)

Beck (FE11), Shiori (Utena) and Michiru (BSSM) :D

Date: 2011-08-20 06:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mark-asphodel.livejournal.com
Beck...

A) My OTP-- no one, really
B) The runner up-- Beck/Jake does have a weirdo appeal. Especially in an AU. Which I still owe you.
C) The anti-ship-- I haven't thought on this enough.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- Beck interests and appalls me because I got the sense his moral compass is going in circles. He seemed to have the matter-of-fact attitude about killing you see in a mercenary, but without the notions of honor.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Nyna. Someone that royal, that refined, and that pretty barely seems human to him, IMO.

Shiori
A) My OTP-- Nothing. I find her pretty repellent. She was a bad friend to Juri even before the whole Ruka mess came into play.
B) The runner up-- Shiori/mangled car parts.
C) The anti-ship-- Shiori/movie Touga. Yikes. I don't even know what's going on there...
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- I don't think the "revolution" is going to make her a good partner for Juri.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Miki. Not her type. Not enough fire and dash.

Michiru
A) My OTP-- Michiru/Haruka. No contest.
B) The runner up-- Nothing, really.
C) The anti-ship-- Michiru/fanboy
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- I don't think she's perfect, and I think some of the early 'Outers fans' did her a disservice by emphasizing her perfection while bashing the Inner Senshi.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Prince Uranus, 'cause he never existed.

@Beck- Yes Beck/Jake. And yes. Owed fic would be a lovely birthday gift :)

@Michiru- I agree on the perfection thing. She comes across as perfect outwardly, but she is not so shiny on the inside. I do love her, though. <3

Two fandoms, hm? Let's see...how about:

Hector (FE7)

Luna (HP)

Date: 2011-08-21 04:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mark-asphodel.livejournal.com
Hector--
A) My OTP: Don't have one. Hec/Lyn, Hec/Farina, Hec/Eliwood, and Hec/Serra all have good points that intrigue me.
B) The runner up: See above.
C) The anti-ship: Hector/Florina. Everything about this one just irks me. It's a stereotype I don't like that isn't transcended enough to make me like it in this case.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- he never really learned his lessons and wasn't the greatest marquess in Ostian history. Far from it.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Rebecca. No poaching on Eliwood's turf.

Luna!
A) My OTP-- I think Harry/Luna would've been good for them both.
B) The runner up-- Neville/Luna. Neville's a fine young man who knows a thing or two about life as the outsider.
C) The anti-ship-- Ron/Luna. He's a bit of a boor, and it seems like she can tell.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- Would've been better for Harry than Ginny, darn it.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Ron, see above. Unkindness matters to Luna, and Ron, though a good bloke, is often carelessly unkind.

Amen to that. I just never, ever felt like they had any chemistry whatsoever--and you're right, it is quite cliche.

I think Harry/Luna would've been good for them both.

Word. Damn, but it's good to see another Harry/Luna fan. 8D

Mikage
Caeda
and Haruka from BSSM :D

Date: 2011-08-22 08:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mark-asphodel.livejournal.com
Mikage--
A) My OTP-- NO ONE
B) The runner up-- I think I remember reading an intriguing Mikage/Ruka post-game thing once.
C) The anti-ship-- With Utena. Too headfucky even by the standards of this series.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- I don't think he and Mamiya were actually doin' it. And if they were, I don't want to imagine how that worked.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- He didn't love Tokiko. He didn't understand Tokiko. He didn't try. He just applied his own... theories... to things without taking feelings into account.

Caeda--
A) My OTP-- Caeda/Marth. He's going to be high-maintenance, but by all appearances, she seems to actually get that and have an idea of what she's getting into. She loves him, she's taking the mess they're in seriously, and for somebody who's, uh... seventeen? She seems admirably grounded. Then again, there are some days when I get in a pet and feel that she deserves better.
B) The runner up-- Oh, hi Ogma. Where've you been all these years?
C) The anti-ship-- I don't know that I've ever seen anyone shipping Caeda in a risible manner. Usually it's Marth fangirls killing her off so the Mary Sue gets a crack at their precious prince.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- Jesus Christ on a biscuit, she's not actually turning tricks for the entire Archanean League. She may not be a total "innocent," but most of the guys she recruits come over for a) money or b) notions of honor or c) both.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Roger. Because poor Roger is fated to be comic relief who doesn't get laid, and Caeda had an advance copy of the script.

Haruka
A) My OTP-- Haruka/Michiru forever.
B) The runner up-- Um... hmm. Haruka and one of the SailorStars would be kind of interesting.
C) The anti-ship-- Haruka/Boys
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- Like Michiru, Haruka had some pretty militant fangirls who liked to rag on the Inner Senshi. She's an awesome supporting character, but the series is not about her, you know?
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Setsuna. Too remote, probably.

Man, I remember all the inner vs. outer senshi wank. Eugh.

I'm totally with you on Mikage - I find the allegations of all his motives coming down to pedophilia more than a little baffling. I guess a lot of it comes down to fandom's tendency to want pairings for everything, maybe.

Oh, I was going to say Shiori! So, how about Juri, then?

And, um. I don't know, Sirius and/or Snape? /biased

Date: 2011-08-20 06:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mark-asphodel.livejournal.com
Juri--

A) My OTP-- Nobody. I like her as she is, and I don't feel the relationships offered to her in canon are good for her.
B) The runner up-- either an AU where Ruka gets better or an AU with movie!Miki.
C) The anti-ship-- Juri/Shiori just seems like it's really going to hurt them both, in the end.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- Back when I was into Utena fandom, the "Juri is a true prince" theory was going around, and I think it's pretty plausible. She came closer to winning those duels with Utena than anyone else-- the games were rigged.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Anthy, because Juri can see that Anthy is creepy and a harbinger of trouble.

Snape
A) My OTP-- Snape/Magic. When he gave that first DADA lecture? Yeah.
B) The runner up-- Oh, hell, I was sold on the Lily angle from way back when.
C) The anti-ship-- Snape/Harry. Nope. Nope. Nope.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- Getting picked on in school is not an excuse for joining the wizarding KKK, so sorry.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Remus Lupin. They pretty clearly detest one another. I'd say Snape fears Lupin for what he is. Why, Snupin shippers, why?

let's see

Ranma
Ike

Date: 2011-08-20 05:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mark-asphodel.livejournal.com
Ranmaaaa--

A) My OTP-- with Akane. They deserve one another.
B) The runner up-- gyah, I was such a Ranma/Ukyo fan back in the day. Poor Ukyo. Gotta admit, I was deep into Ranma/Ryouga screwed up "rivalry" slash, too.
C) The anti-ship-- No Ranma/Kodachi. She's not a nice girl waiting to be discovered. She's insane, just like the rest of her family.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- man, the "comic" arcs and the "serious" arcs of the manga are often so opposed to one another that coming down on characterization and the like is so tricky. I don't think he's a raving assholish bully? At least not moreso than, oh, anyone else in the series?
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Nabiki, because Nabiki is a hard customer.

Ike--

A) My OTP-- Ike/Soren. As far as I'm concerned, it's as canon as post-FE5 Fire Emblem gets.
B) The runner up-- I see the case for Ike/Elincia based on the NoA hack job. And loose ends like that are, after all, what fanfiction is for.
C) The anti-ship-- Ike/Mia. It reeks, to me, of a double case of fanbrat wish fulfillment.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- it's not immoral to write Ike in a het relationship, any more than it's wrong to write "canon het" characters in same-sex relationships. If the story puts it across convincingly, then it's all good.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Boyd, because Boyd is annoying.

Est and Usagi

Date: 2011-08-21 11:45 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mark-asphodel.livejournal.com
Est--
A) My OTP-- Est/Jesse. I love the idea of a more mature Est finding love with the very likable king
B) The runner up-- I guess Est/Abel might work in an AU...
C) The anti-ship-- Est/Cain. Not seeing it.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- the conflict between her words and her actions makes her disturbing, not adorable.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Michalis. I think the usurper king in his glory probably terrified her. She might've had a crush on Camus, though.

Usagi--
A) My OTP-- Usagi/Mamoru. Though the manga makes a better case for it than the anime, IIRC.
B) The runner up-- mmm, Seiya might've worked. Maybe. In an AU.
C) The anti-ship-- Usagi/Minako never really worked for me.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- The whole Sailor Cosmos thing is very interesting and terribly disturbing. I think I like that better than the anime ending, by far.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Prince Diamante. Psycho.

Marth aaaaaaand Heero.

what no I am not predictable at all.

Date: 2011-08-21 12:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mark-asphodel.livejournal.com
Hah.

Marth.
A) My OTP-- mmm. On balance, reboot!Marth and reboot!Caeda probably works the best. I see some problems there, but she does truly love him as a person, and he needs her and knows it. And she's a stronger character than he is, which will make this work.
B) The runner up-- as much as Marth/Catria is something I enjoy, Merric would be a more grounded partner, IMO.
C) The anti-ship-- Marth/Camus does not work. No. It doesn't. I don't care how pretty it is, this violates so many canonical motivations for everyone's actions that it just puzzles the hell out of me. NO.
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- Oh, hell, I don't even know anymore.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- He never fell in love with anyone who wasn't Caeda, quite possibly because Caeda had that human connection to him in Talys during a time of his life when he wasn't anything special. (You could make the same argument for a couple of his knights if you cared to).

Heero!
A) My OTP-- Heero/Relena. Screw manga sequels.
B) The runner up-- love the potential for Heero/Trowa. Makes more sense to me than most of the other fannish BL pairings. They actually appear to respect one another, for a start...
C) The anti-ship-- Heero/Duo. Talk about a case of a cracked-out fan hivemind. What was actually there onscreen to justify this, again?
D) My unpopular fannish opinion on said character-- he wasn't the Perfect Soldier. Trowa was the Perfect Soldier. Heero jacked up just about every key mission and just kept trying to fix things. Often the fix included his own self-destruction. Entertaining to watch, but damn what a pile of trouble he is.
E) One person he/she never fell in love with, and why-- Duo. They're a funny pair of war buddies at cross-purposes, but Heero just kind of seems to tolerate Duo and his foibles, and I think Duo is impressed by some of Heero's stunts but not won over by his shining personality, hah. Besides, Duo has his own brand of panache, kthx.
