Fic Update: "To Freely Serve, Part Five"

Nothing like having another novelization of your pet game on your tail to spur you into an update. I'd been sitting on this chapter for yonks, but the second half wasn't finished, so I just chopped the chapter in two and released this half. Yay?
So, Norne the spunky volunteer is starting to falter; the war just keeps getting more complicated, and there are signs that not all the players on the "good" side are actually... good. Don't worry, it just gets worse from here.
ETA: Really, I just want to get to the chapter where they hit Gra. Because.
Son of ETA: Dammit. Looking over this again, I'm seeing the stumbling-block at the end of the 'fic.
So, we use the Aum staff in this, because... well, why not? It's there. And the body count is pretty high when we get to Dolhr so there are numerous characters to choose from. And here is my problem.
Candidates to Resurrect
Character A: Someone not terribly important plot-wise, but they mean a lot to Norne
Character B: Someone important to the political/military landscape. Norne does not care for them as a person.
Character C: Let's call this the "Chapter 24X Cheat" option. Sick, but not out of keeping with the tone of the story.
Character D: You can't use it on them in actual gameplay.
Originally I went with A, for sentimental reasons and because it freaked out Norne to have them back. Then I decided that was kind of cruel and went with B because I was uncomfortable with blasting that particular hole in the political landscape. Still, I want the use of that staff to have impact, though, so C and D are tempting, but that leaves the problem of keeping B dead. Mm. I just can't decide.
