Ha! I'm amused as those are pretty much my thoughts (though Heero/Trowa was my main Trowa ship of choice after one too many bad Quatre/Trowa fics, and I admit to also dabbling in a bit of Midi/Trowa, except I never did come across a fic that really pulled it off and I found that subsection of fandom to be generally very strange... even compared to the rest of fandom).
At some point all the various canon spinoffs and fanon crap muddled the whole fandom for me though. @_@
