That's a big offender. Competent, workmanlike... but Jeff ain't in his daddy's league as a novelist.
His book on the post-Gettsyburg war wasn't much cop, either... I read that back in college and came away feeling that, given what I knew about the subject myself, I pretty much could have written it.
