Spent the weekend in a place remote enough not to have cell phone coverage OR the Intarwebz.  Yes, they do exist even yet.

Much to read and comment upon tomorrow.

In the meantime... looks like the first shot of the new wave of Marth/Mary Sue stories has hit ffnet.  I detect a strong SSB influence in it, though, so it does not appear to be FE12-inspired.  Maybe it's just an outlier....

SSB always seems to rear its head in FE fandom at a time when it is least welcome. *chuckles*

Welcome back. :) I hope that you had a fun time.

As far as the fic goes, assuming that we're talking about the same one, I think it's highly likely that the author comes from the SSB fandom. Besides, if this Mary Sue was based on FE12, she should be an Altean Knight. That's one of the few facts that we know about Gary Stu/Mary Sue's history.

That fic hits a nerve for me. I hate stories that kill off Caeda solely to pair Marth with someone else. It irritates me. And I find the characterization distressing. -_- I've tried a few times to leave a review, but I can't write anything that doesn't sound mean, so I've given up on that.

I'm sorry that I posted this again. I didn't like what I wrote before.

I had a wonderful time, thank you!

Very true. But everything about the setup also screamed of SSB-- the immediate reference to the tiara, the way the villains decided to capture and maltreat Marth rather than, you know, just kill him. Because out of the many, many characters who have it in for Marth in the FE games, the emphasis is pretty solidly on just killing him. Lurid imprisonment fantasies = SSB all the way.

[Why am I overanalyzing this? 'Cause it's already three chapters long and there is NO EXCUSE for this stuff anymore beyond laziness.]

And I find the characterization distressing. -_- I've tried a few times to leave a review, but I can't write anything that doesn't sound mean, so I've given up on that.

Same here. Concrit is next to impossible when the fundamentals of the story are so very wrong.

This one is pure, unadulterated SSB cliches, all of them derived from a time before FE11. Possibly from a time before FE7. There is no excuse for this.
