"OMG look at this little loser that is the most ridiculous outfit ever MY GOD it's like a metal flower petal. He's the Sailor Saturn of FE Lords!" Er, character-wise he struck me as "Marth, Again," what with the "find my big sister" thing, which is what grabbed me at first.
What I think of their design.
He's adorable. His armor is... dumb. But the color scheme is nice! And we do have OA of him in normal clothes, which helps.
What I think of their role in the story.
He kind of hijacks Seliph's storyline in Gen 2 (I suspect the rumor that Leif was also intended to be Lord-Class in FE4 is correct because it makes sense of this plot hijack). He's better integrated into the overall epic than Ares, but there's just that feeling that Lewyn went "whatever" at the Thracian border and just let Leif stomp around for months on end.
But then Seliph makes Leif feel inferior all through FE5, so I guess they're even. Leaf's own development arc in FE5 is just great and it's the first time we really see that level of Lord characterization.
What I think of their interactions with other characters.
He's pretty reckless in FE4 and seems like a smaller, angrier, less suave version of Cuan. I love (?) how all his lover conversations are basically THRACIA > wife. :P He's pretty good with Altena, though.
FE5 sands off a lot of the sharp edges and gives him this squishier, better-humored personality. I adore him in FE5... but I do like his FE4 self because he seems like he's gonna be some kind of trouble down the line.
My favorite aspect of the character overall.
Everything that spirals out from Leif not being the Chosen One of his saga and/or the major blood carrier. It's refreshing.
What could have been improved or changed with regards to the character.
I wish he'd talked with Seliph more in FE4. I don't think I have complaints re: FE5. Honestly he's one of the best Gen 2 characters, so compared with everyone else there's nothing to complain about other than lack of any "showing" that he and Seliph (much less Ares) really become friends.
My number one wish for this character.
Yo, you have the potential to be the next big threat facing Jugdral. You'll lose, kiddo. So don't even think about it.
