So, seventeen years after Barhara, we meet up with Seliph and his posse in Isaac.
I complain about the Tilnanogue gang being underwritten, but their introductions aren't terrible. Larcei and Lana make it clear to the boys that they as girls have a damn good reason to fight their oppressors, for instance. It's just that they don't really go anywhere from their starting point.
[Also, I wish we learned more about where Oifaye, Lester, and Delmud were before the game and what they were up to. Scouting out other rebel groups sounds 10X more interesting than anything we see Del or Lester actually do in the game.]
The timeline is already giving me headaches. If Barhara really happened in 761 (and thus 9+ months after the opening of Chapter 5), then this should be 778, not 777. Larcei and Ulster were two years old when Shanan took them to Isaac, making them a few months older than Seliph (which gels with Seliph's "I'm not a kid" conversation with them), which means they were born in Agusty, which has all these other implications. Argh.
So, our new heroes:
Starting off, everyone's at Level 1 save Delmud. He's probably the youngest of the boys (aged sixteen in Thracia 776, yo) but he's Level 3. Go figure.
We have our Junior Lord Seliph, with his 44-kill Silver Sword he got from Sigurd plus the handy Leg Ring and a Speed Ring to give him 12 Speed. Nice. Seliph acquired six more kills on said sword and ended up at 4.9 with the second Skill Ring, which he will likely sell.
Then we have the Ayra/Jamke babies, Ulster the Prince of Verdane (not that the script cares any) and his sister Larcei. The Knight Bracelet and Life Ring that Larcei and Ulster got from their parents turned out to be a good idea. Ayra did most of her killin' with the Hero Sword that's gonna be in Patty's hands, so while Larcei has some nice weapons, they're all "gently" used and not crit-happy. This did not prevent her from killing all over the place, and the Prayer Sword also made some enemy-phase parts easier. Ulster has a boring Iron Blade but a Shield Ring giving him 12 DEF at base and likewise killed stuff good. The swordtwins got to 5.11 (L) and 4.76 (U).
There's also the Aideen/Finn kidlets-- Lester, with a crap Iron Bow but a Power Ring that gives him 14 STR at base, and Lana with Aideen's arsenal of L33T staves. Lester also killed stuff pretty well (including Dannan) and got to 7.16. He can buy a Steel Bow now with the money the parental units left him. So far, so good. Lana's basically Aideen Plus no matter what you do and is 6.40 thanks to staffbot duties.
Then there's the male Raquie/Alec offspring, Delmud with his Defence Sword and Skill Ring boosting him to 12 SKL and 14 DEF at base. Yeah, baby. Del got to 6.19 and wore that Defence Sword down good.
And there's Oifaye. He's his usual self with his usual stuff. Of course, in short order we acquired Julia, Johalva, Fee, and Arthur. Fee is your standard Levin!Fee with a nice arsenal of lances'n'swords passed down from Fury, including that 39-kill Hero Lance that should serve her well. I also bought her the Fire Sword the instant we got to the Ch7 shop. Fee saved some villages and got to 4.9; she's also already racking up the love points with Oifaye because I like that pairing dammit. I also adore Fee because her reasons for joining Celice just feel very satisfying compared to many of her peers-- she's motivated by actual idealism on a grand scale and not just my family/my homeland.
Oh yes. Arthur. Remember, he's the son of Tiltyu and Lex this time around. He comes in at Level 2 and ended the chapter at 11.72... with 8 MAG. He came in with 8 MAG. That's his base when he's the son of a Level 30 Lex. He gained no MAG in all those levels. ARGH. At least he should be able to hit stuff with a sword. -_-
I used my usual strategy for leveling up Arthur-- send him over the mountain pass, park him outside Rivough, and have him tickle Dannan with wind magic the entire chapter. There are no repercussions because Dannan's melee-only, and when Lester finally showed up the two of them took turns throwing things over the castle walls until Dannan died. I think he's the easiest boss in the game.
On to Chapter Seven, for Hero Sword Patty and the rest!
