Food Post!
May. 17th, 2012 07:28 pmGood things:
Ahi tuna cooked over our new grill. I don't like canned tuna, or tuna in oil, or tuna in most other forms, so this surprised me. Ahi steaks topped with a relish of olives and sun-dried tomatoes? Oh yeah.
Cheap frozen pizza cooked on said grill. "Wood-fired" pizza? You'd better believe it.
Surprisingly good things:
Haggis and Treacle Sponge Pudding. From cans. Actually quite a nice meal, especially if the haggis is heated with a spoonful of scotch and topped with some cream... then spread on toast. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it.
Mind-blowingly good things:
Taro and sago pudding, warmed, topped with a swirl of coconut cream. Turns out there's an amazing Thai/Vietnamese place in London, Ontario. Amazing.
Things for which there are no words:
Home-cooked Southern Indian feast (idlis, dosas, coconut chutney, potato masala, gobi Manchurian, carrot pudding, lychee juice and aloe drink) enjoyed with friends. I did NOT do the cooking, except for the pound cake I made as a hostess gift.
Not food, even by my standards :
After about fifteen years of trying and failing, I finally managed to keep an Oriental Poppy alive long enough for it to bloom. 'Twas a nice surprise to see that red-orange splash this afternoon amid my Centaura montana and violet-tinged irises.
