Cupcakes With A Side of "Die, Internet!"
Mar. 11th, 2011 08:51 pm I have nothing to say regarding the earthquake/fire/tsunami disaster that would contribute to any dialogue in a meaningful sense.
Except to say that the people who use this event as an excuse to score cheap political shots in the comments section of various online newspapers just make me sick.

Made the original Maple Bacon Cupcakes for a baby shower today... in part to taunt a co-worker who hates the bacon craze and found the concept of bacon cupcakes to be unholy. It was a time-consuming recipe-- cook bacon, chill bacon fat, cut bacon into tiny pieces, etc. The cakes didn't raise as much as they should've, going by the pictures, even though I used new and fresh leavening agents, and a few had little dimples in the center even when fully baked. The frosting recipe barely made enough to cover the cakes, so forget about Sprinkles-style swirls of fluffy buttercream. That said, these were tasty little suckers and left me wanting to do more explorations into the salty-sweet end of dessert creation.
My skeptical co-worker took one bite of the cupcake and said, "I stand corrected."

Another co-worker brought in a marvelous "Apple Pie Pizza" made by his wife-- it was a rectangular apple lattice tart with vanilla cream cheese complementing the fruit. I would love to make it with pears in place of apples. Pears and vanilla, mmm.
