NaNo, Halloween
Oct. 23rd, 2010 09:54 am Every time of year I ask myself, "Whose moronic idea was it to have NaNoWriMo in November, what with the holidays ramping up, and end-of-year deadlines, and all that?"
( Plans, or non-plans, for NaNo )
Also, Greenfield Village is officially better than Disneyland. It's not as expensive, the food is way (way) better, the walkabouts aren't as creepy, and the Halloween Nights is just amazing. I'd like to be a little kid again for a night to see the spectacle through child-eyes. We're talking a quartet of singing giant pumpkins on the lawn outside Stephen Foster's house, Thomas Edison's labs lit up with an eerie light, and glimpses of the shades of famous men (Edison, Ford, the Wright Bros...) through the doors and windows of their own homes. Americana of the Damned. Plus pirate battles, story telling, free candy, amazing carved pumpkins, and a walk through a very atmospheric Sleepy Hollow. The covered bridge was turned into this amazing vortex of green light and mist-- I think I spent about ten minutes trying to figure out how they worked it. It was 100% fun to tromp around the entire complex at night.
Also, I had this for dinner. Walnut ketchup was really good. And the cake was fantastic.
