#14:  Best Designed Character/Artwork

Design.  Interesting topic.  Of course, we have to suspend disbelief on the front end to accept FE designs; spikes on armor and long swirls of clothing and hair all invite immediate speculation on how they might harm the wearer in actual combat.

One thing that impressed me about Alm, besides his personality and his ability to transcend the "peasant prince" trope in a way that pleased me, was his outfit.  As in, full suit of armor.  That there is one main character whose #1 design concern is not "pwetty!"

As opposed to this guy.  Celice's design has always irked me, because it's so close to FE3!Marth, except tricked out with the white gloves and the white boots and more gold embroidery and more... more.  Of everything.  More hair, even.  Whereas Sigurd had his own identifiable color scheme and the cravat, which rocks.  Should've take fashion cues from Dad, Celice.

And then there's Leaf.  Dear me.  The color scheme is fine but the gilt-edged metal sailor fuku look was never in, not even in 776.  Sorry.

And then Roy ushers us away from the daft superhero look into the age of white britches, which worked pretty well, all things considered.  Though I did, upon first glance, think Ephraim had bare legs!

And, after a brief detour through Marth's latest wardrobe update, we're dealing with "Krom" and his bare arms and that sister of his with the buttons all over her head.

But that's just the main dude.  Main chicks I have less of an opinion on, other than to say I think Micaiah's clothes are lovely and that I'm glad the FE8 script addressed Eirika's very short skirt.

As for the overall design... well, each gameverse does have its own feel, and you can often spot which pieces of fanart belong to which game even from low-res images because they're that distinct.  Jugdral for me is really hit-and-miss, and for the most part I prefer the card came versions of the character designs to the artbook ones.  Archanea runs the spectrum from the NES art (avert your eyes) to the card game art (which I really love) to the elaborate FE12 designs.

Rody back then.  Rody now.  Some characters didn't "evolve" nearly as much, but Rody and his buddy Luke indicate pretty well how things shifted aesthetically.  They're classy-looking guys now, but I still really like the clean lines and geometric patterns of the card game art.  It kept some of the "classical world" feel of the original while being beautiful and just... different.

I really do like the FE8 look overall; I have to agree with Kender that Neimi probably takes the prize for "Oh my word, sensible clothes!"

For flat-out gorgeous clothes belonging to a non-combatant, though... Nyna wins.  Forever.
