New Archanea Relationship Chart

Posted on Serenes Forest here.  It's a combination of the chart given in FE12, plus at least one image from the FE3 artbook and some info from the designers' notes.  I think the nation's flags were taken from the card game.  Note that Altea's colors are green and white, while Talys has the blue flag with the yellow cross.  The flag of Khadein is lovely, too.

Oh, yeah.  And apparently the whole thing about the royal family of Altea and Gra sharing a common ancestry was a mistranslation.  Whups.  I love being jossed by new revelations about twenty-year-old canon.  Yeah, apparently Gra just didn't care for Marcelus and they decided to form their own country.  Which was pretty convenient, given it was two separate islands.  So Marth and Sheema aren't cousins, and he has no claim whatsoever to Gra besides that Sheema wants him to have it.  How cheap.

I have some stories to massively retcon, not to mention a metric tonne of headcanon to adjust. @_@

I'm glad I dragged my feet on "Honesty" now, 'cause that whole familial connection was a plot point.

Man, I remember the day when I didn't really care what was canon or not so long as it was a thing in fandom.

Nowadays I try to check the Japanese on any point that seems dubious in the least, just in case. Because... fuck, it sucks when that up there happens.

Wha... Man, that is a huge mistake to make. Bummer. Reminds me of Hector's mysterious "half-brother", except on a larger scale. -_-

Really hammers in the whole divine right thing even more though. From that perspective, it's Sheema/Jiol who arguably have no claim or at least less "legitimacy," if their forebears were essentially insurrectionists who Marcellus couldn't afford to or couldn't be bothered to deal with (????). Though I guess that does explain why Jiol always gave off such a different vibe...

I wonder if that line in FE3 Book II about "Gra and Aritia were originally like one family" helped muddle the issue. Because that was pretty obviously a metaphor, given Marth is addressing that random village woman.

Yeah. The descendants of disgruntled insurrectionist peasants instead of divinely sanctioned heroic peasants. So, Sheema's decision to bail does make just as much sense, and I guess in technical terms it "should" be Marth's territory anyway...
