The Search for Red Velvet Milk
So, my most excellent spouse gave me a coupon for Prairie Farms milk. Specifically, weirdo flavored milk like Pumpkin Spice and Red Velvet. I do like my bizarroland junk food, so I went out searching for a carton of the stuff. I haven't found any yet-- not at Kroger, not at Meijer, and definitely not at CVS.
After another fruitless (or milkless) jaunt to Kroger, I told my spouse that I was going to buy one of their cheapo red velvet cakes, cube it, and drop it in a bowl of regular milk. Red Velvet Soup, in the manner of the "carrot cake soup" that the brainiacs at Penny Arcade invented.
"I'm scared," he mumbled in reply.
"They came up with the recipe, not me," I said to defend myself.
"They also came up with the idea of killing one another over a Pac-Man watch," he said, then added after a pause, "I'm glad I don't have a Pac-Man watch."
He doesn't have a Pac-Man watch. I still am sorely tempted on the "soup" idea.
ETA: Ran out to Iversen's Express for a red velvet cupcake and tested this, ah, recipe. The verdict? Well, it's not that different from ordinary breakfast cereal, really, which says something very unflattering about the nutritional profile of breakfast cereal. There are red chunks of cake that absorb milk and get moist, and blobs of icing, and the milk turns pink and tastes, well, pink.
Maybe carrot cake soup is a little more revelatory, but Red Velvet Soup is just another way to have a cupcake and milk.

Of course, at home, we drink milk mixed with tamarind powder, saffron, and cardamom on a regular basis (it's good for your digestive system!) and I think that's pretty good, so.
