Northern Lights

Those of you living above 40 degrees North latitude may want to look out the window; there's a big geomagnetic storm going on, with significant auroral activity.  In layman's terms, there are lots of pretty colored lights in the sky.

I guess those 2 degrees or so make all the difference, because I didn't see anything :c

It was hit and miss. Looked like nothing much from my neighborhood, but people 20-30 minutes away took great pictures. Reports of the aurora went down to Kentucky at least, though.

Gah. Jealous. Living at the equator makes me miss a lot of astronomical events.

Ah! Yes, that would cut you out of the aurora action.

That said, light pollution is so bad where I live that I couldn't see much of anything. There was something a bit different about the quality of light at the horizon, and I could make out a tinge of pink and green, but that was it.

Of course I see this well after the fact. :P

Then again, I was at my desk all evening, and it faces the window--I didn't see anything except for buildings and the flickering lights from the radio towers. :C
