Some people probably get excited when they're told they're being sent to a conference at such-and-such casino.
Not me. Sonic the Hedgehog may have convinced a generation of Sega players that casinos were somehow exciting, but the ones I've seen are such dispiriting places-- grubby, smoky, and filled with people who don't actually look like they're enjoying themselves. I went for a walk last night and the grounds had all these security barriers and forbidden zones that made me feel I was cooped up on a military base instead of a "resort." The bored, vaguely malicious guards hanging out everywhere didn't help matters.
All in all, this place-- a massive structure rising out of the mid-Michigan farmland, exuding bad vibes-- is like a less-charming variation of that madhouse I stayed in for New Year's.
