Y'know, after some of the WTF DLC for FE13, it took a while to get back in a positive mindset about the thing.

I was there in the happy zone for about a week, because Est was pretty cute in a derpy kind of way (appropriate) and the presentation was basically true to her character.

Then Catria showed up.  She's wearing waffle fries on her arms, her sleek costume design has been replaced by something that looks like it was acquired from Cirilla's, and she looks really uncomfortable, like maybe she's got chafing under her little skirt from not wearing any underpants.   But, oh, it's a modified version of the FE13 Dark Pegasus Knight outfit, so that makes it acceptable.  OK.

And now we have Palla.  And honestly, she'd just look kind of awkward, what with the odd expression and tiny feet, except that she has this little flap at the front of her outfit exposing her crotch area.  What the fuck.

Seriously, people.  At this point they could give me smoking hot Innes in a goddamned kilt and I'd still be annoyed by this crap.  If they're doing all this to be "faithful" to the FE13 character class designs, they're crappy designs.

See Palla.  See Catria.  See Est.   Just because they're chicks doesn't mean they're not, you know, knights.  They show about as much skin as their male counterparts because they're trained, dedicated kickass warrior women who don't go around flashing their crotches to the enemy.  And while DLC!Ike turned out fugly, none of the guys have been diminished into these hypersexualized caricatures.  I don't see shiny new DLC Eltoshan with the crotch cut out of his pants.  DLC Eltoshan was based on his classic TCG design.

And the less said about the new official art for the FE13 originals, the better.

*tilts head*

Now I'm sure they're taking pages from fanservice-heavy series ... like a lot of the ones I play. But FE really isn't supposed to be like that. o_O

Ugh, I am really despising all the fetish-ist art I've been seeing for FE13. Not that the game itself is endearing itself to me, from what I've seen so far. :/

I know, right? Now, I know that FE has always had somewhat of a dating sim quality to it, what with character supports and all, so perhaps they decided to amp up that aspect up for FE13 (hence the very ecchi designs). However, this seems to be alienating some of their player demographic... Namely, us. XP

This is getting crazier by the month. What is it, a contest of impractical and... well, ridiculous outfits ? I agree with you on Est's redesign, though I'm still wondering if it is really practical to ride a pegasus (or anything, really) while wearing heeled boots. Which is but a detail considering the rest.

Now, I'm really afraid to see what they will do to Olwen and Altenna since apparently, they're also in the DLC.

Also, on the subject of FE13 itself... WHO thought Serge and Soirée were good names for women ?

"Wha...?

I had not heard this. Details!"

Euh... I just saw that on the FE wiki's FE13 page. Though I don't know if this means they will also get a makeover. Nanna, Minerva, Eyvel and Finn are also on the list, just to name a few.

About Serge and Soirée... Usually, I don't really react to weird names in FE, but those two really bug me. Maybe it's because I take every opportunity I can get to bash the upcoming game :D Or because when I hear Serge, I think about Dassault, and when I hear "soirée", well... I think about parties.

Viole isn't so bad either, since "viol" means "rape" in French. And sorry about the edits, I just can't get all my ideas at the same time ^^

Also, I didn't know about "Sheeda" being a male name (if I read you correctly). Details !

"ETA: Is this the Spotpass list? They all had their classic art being used for that. Classic art portraits and generic battle sprites."

It is. Sorry, I didn't know about that detail ^^ What do you mean by "classic art" ?

Actually, horse riders are supposed to wear boots with heels; they help keep the riders' feet in the stirups. (Note that even the male riders wear heeled boots, although not as high as the women's.) If they didn't wear heels, they be more likely to be dragged behind their mount if they got knocked off. (Much better to fall off completely... Although maybe not so much for those with flying mounts...)

However, the spike heels I've been seeing in these FE13 designs are still ridiculous for any fighter. XP (Ever try to wear heels in dirt? They sink in. Not very practical for the battlefield...)

Oh, I'll admit that the armour in FE is hardly accurate. But FE13 seem to be raising the bar for impractical armour. (That one girl with backless armour, WTF?) And I rather like thigh-high boots, but their use in the FE13 designs are just... Ick.

Ooo, thigh-high boots on guys... (Though I'm perfectly happy with guys in plate armour; women too, for that matter.) But with those designs, you might as well abandon all pretense of armour and put the girls in chainmail bikinis... Oh, wait...

Like what you said, the male equivalent would be putting the guys in harnesses, assless chaps and come hither poses, and I don't see that happening. (And I'm not sure I'd want to see that, either.)

And not this cheesecake titillation garbage!

The funny is that I should be laughing because I do play those types of games, but I also love FE, so I'd also be punching myself in the face. This is just a really strange situation.

On the subject of impractical armor: FE isn't nearly as bad about this as Langrisser and Growlanser (same artist for both, heh). Wallace may be the man, but at least he's not walking around with a battleship on each shoulder accompanied by Vaida in enough ribbons and chains to make the graphics engine hiccup.

Also. Xyst.

Gesundheit!

Well, I mean, I think it's fine to say, "I like both, but I don't want them to become each other"? Like, it's not quite the same, but I love FF and FE both. But when FE13 started with stuff that looked straight out of FF-- the bunny girls looking like sexed-up viera, costumes owing more to random decoration than anything else-- I was not happy in the least. It's fine in FF! I expect it there. But I like FE for different reasons entirely.

Yeesh. I don't care if it sounds petty: my desire to purchase this game wanes with every announcement. I mean, I doubt I'll enjoy the game in itself very much if I don't like the aesthetic, the world, any of the characters.... :/

When the art for the female DLC characters started to become less and less... "ideal", my enthusiasm for the game began to wane along with it. Now I've given up any pretense of actual excitement for it, solely based on all of the new artwork coming out for it--which is a shame, I think, because the little I've read about the game content and plot itself does seem to relatively intriguing on its own. Alas.

Sadly, I wouldn't characterize either of those two portraits as hypersexualized...which is really an indictment on the art style of the average modern anime series :/

But man, the more I see of FE13's art, the more I'm tilting towards actively disliking it. I'm guessing my self-imposed avoidance of potential FE13 spoilers has saved me from a lot of iffy artwork? XD Jeez, at this point just get Satoshi Urushihara to do the char designs...

And wtf is Cat supposed to be standing on? That is a supremely awkward pose.

To get my quick disclaimer out: despite popular opinion I really like the artstyle of the actual FE13 characters, and the designs. (But I might just think Ronku is cute, I don't know. Don't judge me.)

But almost ALL of the DLC art, except maybe Ephiram's is just atrocious (well, Roy is okay too). From Loli!Micaiah's tiny neck and huge tits, to Eirika's wedding dress, to THE UGLIEST IKE EVER (SERIOUSLY. WHY??) It almost feels like the fans are being trolled. And I never accuse companies of that, but just...wow.

Maybe the final DLC people are thinking about will be Minerva in a G-string and huge shoulder pauldrons. Who's a fuckin' nun now!? Rettttccoooonnn!
